Hi Souba! Good to hear from you again. Music plays a part in my comic-making process. I'm always listening to music when I work. Currently, my stereo contains CDs from Rebecca St. James, Delirious, and BarlowGirl… all the bands listed in my music section at ComicSpace. :)

Awesome galleries, your inking is very solid. Man once I get paid I got a lot of comics to buy! ;)
I also love your fav music gallery. :D Hey ever heard music from Skillet, or Red?
God Bless,
Souba aka QoN

Thank you for the kind comments, Souba. Inking comics has been such an incredible blessing in my life. DC Comics has asked me to ink another issue of JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED. JLU should be fun to ink again.

I haven’t heard of Skillet or Red. The bands that I have included in the music gallery, Rebecca St. James, BarlowGirl, Delirious, and Casting Crowns are quite awesome. I saw both Rebecca St. James and Delirious last April. That was an excellent concert.

I hope all is well. Thanks for stopping by. God bless. :)

I checked out the Nihilist Man stuff. You've got solid talent. The layouts are excellent. Very expressive, with solid use of blacks. With this much talent, its almost a shame that the subject matter is so corny. BUT! I'm gunna give it a chance.

Thanks for the kind comments about Nihilist-Man, Chad. Sorry you think some of the comics are corny. I like to think of them as fun... which is something that is very needed in today's comics. :)

You can purchase a copy of NIHILIST-MAN AND HIS AMAZING FRIENDS #1 online or even wait until August when it hits finer comic book stores everywhere.

Thanks for stopping by.

Yeah, my Back Issue editor e-mailed me about Marshall Roger's passing. This is so sad. I loved his Batman on Detective Comics #471-#476 (inked by Terry Austin). That was some nice stuff.

One of your "Inking Heroes???" Dude... you need to lay off the hard stuff, bud! (kidding).

Thanx a bunch. It’s always nice to hear that someone actually paid attention to the inker... these days with all the over-coloring I can't even see the inker.

best dishes and good luck in the funny books!

But, I like the hard stuff. :)

Al, your inking on Fantastic Four, Justice League, and Superman/Savage Dragon was amazing!

I’ve always felt that inkers were often overlooked… even more so now-a-days.

Best wishes to you, too, Al! :)

Remove[ Posted by al_gordon on Jan 23rd, 2007 6:50 PM ]...

Thanx for the compliments!

And I agree... Inkers have always been overlooked... even by guys who I figured were smarter than that (like Kevin Smith... although... maybe he was trying to be funny. I know I laughed... even after I started getting approached at conventions with the same rhetoric).

Since I was 10, I knew why Kirby looked better when Sinnot Inked him rather than other less interesting inkers... and I always figured if anyone was paying attention, that they should notice too.

Years later I found out that it's the letterers that were cleaning up - and I don't mean the borders with a kneaded eraser. They get more for their time than any other contingent of comic book making (except bad writers).

Thanx again,
~albabe

Hey Chris! How are you? All is well here. I'm still inking for Archie and DC. I'm supposed to be inking an issue of Justice League Unlimited soon. We're also self-publishing Nihilist-Man and his Amazing Friends #1. The comic will feature Nihilist-Man teaming-up with E-Man, Lethargic Lad, and Buzzboy.

Just wondering, do you think using various sized pens instead of a brush is unprofessional? I use pens and markers for everything I do.

Well, some professional artists do use pens and markers in their work. I very rarely use technical pens, Rapidographs, flair pens, and such. I may sometimes use a ballpoint pen or Micron pen to draw circles or ovals. I ink with both a nib and a brush. Now-a-days, the brush I most often use is #2 Windsor and Newton series seven sable brush. As far as pens go, I often use a Hunt 102 nib. The Hunt 102 is the traditional inking nib for most inkers. When drawing borders, I use a Hunt 512 nib.

We had a nice discussion on inking tools here…

Thanks! I felt slightly guilty about that for a little while now...really! I'll check it out. Thanks again!

Remove[ Posted by Al_Nickerson on Dec 25th, 2006 4:21 PM ]...

As I mentioned above, I am kinda "old school" when it comes to inking tools. I don’t think artists can get the same sort of fluid line and varying line-weight when using regular pens, markers, and such. I would encourage all new artists to master the brush and nib… especially if they’re trying to emulate art styles that were done by using traditional inking tools. Give them a try. You might like using the brush and nib.
