Hi, Jason Dunstan here, creator/writer of "Ardra". It's about an eccentric scientist, Dr. Ardra Renelsior, and her super-intelligent twins, Eileen and Lenore - whom she's raising as a sort of ongoing experiment. We celebrated our one-year mark on December 5. Ardra's definitely something a little different, so check it out at http://www.ardracomic.com. My first cartoonist, Trevor Adams, was the original artist of "Least I Could Do". Unfortunately, he seems to have disappeared, as I haven't heard a word from him since mid-October. I've since found a new artist...Fesworks, creator of the great comic PSI: A Pessimistic Sense of Inadequacy http://www.fesandernst.com. He's doing a great job, and improving all the time. If you have any questions or comments about Ardra, e-mail me at ardrarenelsior@hotmail.com. Even though I'm certainly no artist, I've set up an account over at DeviantArt. It's at http://drardra.deviantart.com/. One sketch up now, and more on the way. You can preview upcoming stuff from the comic; it'll just be drawn WAY better by someone with actual talent by the time it goes up on the Ardra homepage. See just WHY I need an artist so badly, lol... If you like my comic, join the Ardra Forum!

Wow, another cartoonist in Indianapolis! We're a lonely breed. |

I saw the Star article and told some people in my family "Holy sprock, I know that one! I've traded messages with that guy on Comicspace!" They thought I was nuts, but what else is new?
Great job! |

Great strip guys! The dialogue in the latest one is spot-on. Have you been eavesdropping on my little sister? Keep up the good work! |

Another Indy guy. Excellant.
I have to check out your stuff in greater detail; I write lots of fan fics with Ghostbuster Egon Spengler trying to raise his twins, I can see some interesting parallels. |

Hi there! We’re starting up this year’s Small Press Idol…and wanted to invite you to the grand unveiling of this year’s Guidelines. I apologize for the all-in-one nature of this. At this time, individuals and teams have a little over a month to get things together and be ready to post their Round 1 entries. Round 1 will last till March 25th. It’s a solid window to get a project together and qualified for Round 2 past our judge panel. If you are interested in being a contestant, this is fair warning to get a project going! If you are a news outlet or resource of any sort, we invite you to help spread the word about Small Press Idol, and get on the official Sponsors and Supporters list on the Idol Main Page. Traditionally, the page has gotten hundreds of thousands of hits a month for the 5 months the contest runs. All we ask in return for the link placement on our prominently placed list, is a link back in some way that is fairly prominent, and that you indeed cover the contest if you are a news site. You can contact us about that right from the guidelines page. Just want to watch the show? That’s great! Now is time to sign up at the site so you can VOTE in the rounds to come, and post comments about your favorites! We’re expecting hundreds of contestants this year. It should be a lot of fun!

Hope this message reaches you in the spirit it was intended, you are welcome to ask questions, and otherwise make sure this is for real. This is the fourth year for the SPI. Last year’s contest pages are still online. So that’s what this is about, hope it interests you!

Thanks for the add request... best of luck with the webcomic. This seems a good place to find your new artist, sorry the old one disappeared, that's tough. I would be willing to look at some scripts for a guest spot... can't promise anyhting right now, but I would be happy to take a look. |

Thanks, glad you like my efforts. Hey, if you know any comic artists trying to break into the business, I need an artist at the moment. I'm happy on the web, but wouldn't mind taking a shot at syndication at some point with the right artist. After all, with Fox Trot going to Sundays-only, the comics pages need another weird, super-intelligent blonde kid with glasses to replace Jason Fox, right? Lenore's ready to fill the void!
Seriously, though, love your work, and honored that you like mine. Thanks again, good luck with Working Daze and all your endeavors. |

I think Stone Soup is set to fill the Fox Trot void. Couldn't happen to a nicer girl. Personally, I'm waiting for Scott Adams to quit and then it will be Working Daze nation-wide, baby!!
Good luck with your artist search. I'm having a hard enough time getting my own cartoons out the door and coming up with new gags for Gamecreature. Still, I'm confident something will turn up. |

I have been a fan of Ardra from the beginning, and I like how the art has changed in that time, but I can see your frustration at being stalled like this. You know, if you have the desire and a lot of patience, you could be your own artist. You don't need lessons or art school. You would eventually find a style you're happy with. And you'd never have to rely on anyone! 1 Reply [ Latest posted on December 17th, 2006 1:32 AM ]

Thanks! Actually, I'm in the process of setting up a page on Deviant Art, just to run some sketches and Ardra-related stuff past friends/fans of my comic. I actually think I've gotten my technique down enough where I COULD draw the comic myself if I HAD to, but it would be years, if ever, before I could get it to the point I could be satisfied with it. Plus my lack of good software and equipment doesn't help.
Trev went MIA at a really bad time, as I was just getting ready to do a big ad blitz after he did a planned site upgrade...none of which came to pass. The funny thing is, I've gotten some of my best link exchanges since he left. I'm hoping the same thing happens to my comic that happened to "Least I Could Do" after Trevor left there...a huge upsurge in popularity.
Of course, it would help to have an even-better artist take over...;)
Thanks for all your support and help, and keep up the good work with your own comic. |
