About a year and a half ago, I realized one of my childhood dreams. I opened a comic book shop. It's been really successful...and just as I opened the store I met the girl of my dreams. We just got engaged, actually. I've been working hard to help foster a scene of local artists and writers...and promote them as much as I can. I'm working on a podcast for a regional entertainment website, am organizing Drink & Draw events around the area, have been getting Sketch Sessions going every month or so...and will soon embark on publishing local creators through our very own imprint. So, the next childhood dream to tackle...and something I've made little leaps and starts at over the years...the creation and publication of my own comic book, well, it's on the horizon. This whole last year and a half was great...but I hope to have a comic book or three in the can by my next birthday. Each year keeps flying by and I want to tell all the stories I can before...well...yeah. I'm also really excited to meet and interact with others in the industry...whether they be wet newbies like myself or jaded veterans. I'm currently working on Cuddleblud with local writer Evan Saathoff, and the first ever comic book anthology brought to you by Astrokitty Comics and featuring the artwork and talents of eight local creators and one amazing cover artist...well, it's out now! It's called "Larrytown Laffs!" and you can get it for $2.99 at Astrokitty! The next anthology is open for submissions, and it is black and white interiors with a color cover! The theme is "villains" and will be called "Larryvillains United". It will be out at the beginning of 2008 and will feature the first ever print-ready Cuddleblud material. Additionally, multiple Larrytown Laffs! artists and myself are putting together a western comic called "Best Western". Look for it first quarter of 2008! I'll be scanning in pics of Astrokitty that a bevy of Artists and Writers I've met at conventions and that have visited the store...and posting them on here soon!

I'm looking forward to the Drink & Draw. I don't drink (much) and I don't draw (much) but Mike Sullivan said I ought to come out anyway and Mike's never wrong. Word is that you've got a pretty well established bunch who'll be out there so I'm looking forward to lots of meeting and re-meeting people. |
