my name is augustine martinez, a comic book writer, creator, and, most recently, having found this the best avenue to push my comic book idea, producer of sorts (i build a team of penciler, inker, colorist around a single comic book idea). welcome to my second comicspace webpage. my first pitched the comic book series, lolita, an anti-hero concept about a thirteen-year-old girl assassin at the top of the game and with a playful attitude towards her gruesome work who discovers her first sexual stirrings when killing people. the comic book idea was recently picked up by arcana comics. click here to see lolita pitch
this second one will feature two new comic book ideas: sampaguita and american mercenaries. below you will find their respective pitches. Sampaguita Pitch by Augustine Martinez The Manila Projects, 1998. 14-year-old Clara Marie, an amazing beauty with ashen skin and deep black eyes, her splendor recalling a bloodline arisen from the Spanish invaders of old, always knew she didn’t have a choice – Her pimp for a uncle would one day force her into a life of prostitution. Already he has her working like he did her mother, giving her a taste of the life he plans for her by letting men into her room and having Clara give them hand jobs and, sometimes, even perform oral sex. She’s reigned, given into the idea that her life will turn out like her mother’s, who was killed by a deranged john ten years before. But before she enters into that life, she wants one epic love story with Isagani, the handsome, educated, rich boy, whose father owns half the apartment buildings in the projects, and whom she’s been secretly in love with since she was five. She conspires giving away her first kiss to him, and having him take her virginity before someone else buys it from her uncle. She wants her one magical moment; her first time to be special. And after that, the rest of her life, cruel, violent and destitute like that of all Manila prostitutes, can finally happen. American Mercenaries Pitch by Augustine Martinez For years now, the so-deemed “War for the Rose of L.A.”, a struggle between two of the largest gangs-turned major crime syndicates, has waged on the streets of L.A. – from the ghetto neighborhoods to the local colleges to the glamorous sets of Hollywood. In the crossfire of the gang war, millions of dollars worth of private and public property has been destroyed, many have been killed from stray bullets, and the people of L.A. go to bed scared. To answer this menace of a war, the mayor, once the secretary general of Interpol, forms a new special unit of police seven men deep to combat and finally neutralize this threat, recruiting the best and brightest, and some of these seven, the most reckless, uncontrollable and dangerous from around the world – the best way he know how to fight fire with fire. the abovewritten american mercenaries is meant as a sort of allegory to the epic trojan war. the niche is in its setting in modern day l.a. like the epic, it romantizes the concept of honor, love, heroes, beauty worth fighting for, and dying for one's belief, translating all with its parallelization of gang warfare with the trojan war. many of the trojan war characters are well represented, most of all, hellen of troy who was the cause of the war and the suffering of so many. she, as an allusion in the comic book by way of piedra, is the main character. |
