Hello. I am new to this site, but have collected comic books since I was about 13. Below are some titles I collect and plan on adding more info here from time to time. Hope to add some new other interested people and chat about my favorite hobby.

Some of the comics I collect currently include Ex Machina, Fables, Detective, Batman, Robin, Catwoman, Teen Titans, Justice League, Justice Society, Exiles, Astonishing X-men, Birds of Prey, Uncanny X-men, X-men, Y the Last Man, Ultimate Spider-man, Ultimate X-men, X-Factor, New Avengers, and Superman/Batman.

I am more of a Batman fan than anything else and have a number of sketches from artists of him from conventions. I have a huge run on Batman and am trying to get issue 222 but not pay tons of money for it. I have most Batman and Detective issues from 1970 to current.

Uncanny X-men I have from issue 95 to current and have all of most of the other series above in there current rendtions. Feel free to leave me a message or email me too.

I also like to attend conventions. I have been to the Iowa one every year since it started and for the past two years I have gone to the Minnesota one.

RE: free sketches are they becoming a thing of the past?

I think it depends on the creator. If it's an indy creator who's really not making much money on his books, and has to pay for the trip to a con, I totally understand charging for sketches.

Now a small quick sketch for free still shouldn't be a problem.

I personally plan to not charge for sketches once I can make comics full time for a living.

most of the guys that charge havent been independent. the indy creators may charge 5 bucks which i don't mind. but i have guys that want 30 dollars for a sketch in my book which is not like a huge book and that bugs me. i have paid 20 and thats as much as I will go and to my best recollection i have done that 3 times.

Yep, Spud's it is. If for some reason I didn't like Spud's I'd be in trouble, because that's pretty much it around these parts.

Hey, cheers. Glad you like my art, and thank you very much for being my first comment. I checked out your sketches, some of them are really cool, man.

Sorry I haven't replied to your comment. As for what I write, I like scifi but my ideas and stories are not confined to that genre. Right now I'm working on an idea which is more satire and has nothing to do with science fiction. What do you write?

Well, what got me started on comics is when I started reading the early Sonic the Hedgehog ones, and I just started wanting to do my own. Then about 4 years ago, I was writing a little story, and I drew pictures along with it. But then I didn't stop there. I went on to start to draw Knuckles from Sonic the Hedgehog, and I changed him a bit, and that became my first fancharacter. Then I did some comics of him, and did many more after that, just in May really I started the series up here.

But that's pretty much how I got started.

Hey Craig,
I don't have any info yet about either Minnesota's guest list or the possibilities for the Des Moines mini-con. I had a couple of Iowa club members tell me the Iowa mini-con was September, but the website says Oct 27th. If it is Oct 27th it'll have to be pretty good to get me there, as the Kansas City comic club's small show is also that date, and their guest list already includes Michael Golden. As for Minnesota - I can't imagine not going. I haven't missed a show there since I went to my first one in '97, and I've NEVER been let down.

Hey Craig,
Thanks for the add and invite man.
I too am a follower of the Bat, they say that there are two kinds of people in the world, dog people and cat people, the same goes for Superman people and Batman people....I am of the latter.
One of my dream goals is to one day land a gig on one of the Bat books, I am an artist but as of yet have not worked for any of the "big boys".
Feel free to visit my site at; www.surfaceartstudios.com look around, let me know what you think.
I also do commissions from time to time so if you're in the market to get one done, you know where to reach me...
thanks again,
Shawn Surface
