Header: Old Kubert School building being knocked down?
Bulletin: This actually should not have shocked me as much as it did, as the old Dover high school building where the Joe Kubert School was located has literally been INFESTED with a ton of asbestos, since the schools beginnings. We'd always say you could light a match and hold it near a wall in there, and the whole building could go up in a second. ^^;

However, what I saw yesterday, while stopping at the little deli next to the school to pick up a bottle of water and a can of the super caffinated energy drink, Cocaine, for a co-worker of mine at the store, floored me. I pulled out of the side drive way and hit the breaks on the car so hard, both my friend Luz and I lurched foreward. All I could say was, "HOLY FUCK!". Luz was looking at me and asked me what was wrong, why it looked like my jaw had unhinged itself. I just pointed over at the old school and yelped out, "The Kubert School! Half of it's GONE!".

The whole front end, which is really the back end facing route 46, was DEMOLISHED! It looks like something took a HUGE bite out of the back end of the building. My guess is that the asbestos problem was just SO bad that it would just be cheaper to knock the building down and rebuild.

But it was such a shock to the system to see the old school building being torn down, seeing as two years of my life was dedicated to that school. Part of what made the school was the ambiance of the old Dover high school building. Yeah, it was dangerous, but it held an air of mystery and spookiness, especially up on the 3rd floor.

As much sense as it makes to knock the old building down for safety reasons, it's very sad to see it go.

Currently, the Kubert school is temporarily set up in another building not too far away, closer to the route 10 side of Dover, along with the store, which is "technically" not open the public at the moment. Silly move, I think, as the Kubert store makes available to the general public artist supplies that are normally almost IMPOSSIBLE to get without having to pay ridiculous shipping fee's ( I normally purchase my inking brushed only from the Kubert store, but had to order a new one, different #, from Jerry's Artarama, and they didn't even have the number brush I use. The Kubert store does, but... not being open to the public makes it a pain in the ass to buy.

Will a new building replace the old one and will the Kubert school and store move into it or into a new permanent location, I don't know. But as I do live close to Dover still, and do intent to keep buying supplies as much as possible from the Kubert store, you know I'll keep informed. We'll see.

The school gave me a big push in the right direction, and I'd hate to see anything happen to it ;~;. I know some people left the school with a bad taste in their mouths, but for me, the school taught me a lot, not just artistically, but because of the people I met there, I learned how to open up a LOT to life outside of my small area of New Jersey. And if it weren't for the friends I made because of going there, I think I'd still be the ignorant, quiet, shy, scared girl I used to be.
