| Bulletin: | WELLLLL well wellly well! Anyone whom went to Anime Festival NYC just recently remember a curious vendor across the hallway from my table in artist alley, whom were offering a supposedly cruise contest to the Bahamas? Remember? Well, take a look see at the bit of news from the Anime Festival MySpace: The first New York Anime Festival wrapped earlier this week, and this was supposed to be a time of rest and celebration for the NYAF staff, but we are doing neither because one exhibitor -- VTS Global -- was supposedly offering a free trip to the Bahamas, only to contact everyone who completed an application at the VTS booth, tell them they've won, and immediately ask for a credit card number to pay for fees associated with this free trip. We've been in contact with the New York City Police Department, Fraud Unit at the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, Consumer Issues Division of the New York State Attorney General, and Federal Trade Commission and are in the process of lodging official complaints. If you would like to assist and provide further evidence in the VTS investigation, you can register personal complaints against VTS with these authorities... The Federal Trade Commission http://ftc.gov/ftc/cmplanding.shtm The New York State Attorney General http://www.oag.state.ny.us/complaints/pdfs/cns001web_consumer.pdf If you gave them your credit card information, please E-MAIL NYAF IMMEDIATELY. In addition, file a report with your local police precinct (http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/html/home/precincts.shtml) and -- if you have not already done so -- immediately contact your bank and credit card company to stop, reverse, or cancel any charges. We wanted to make the New York Anime Festival a community, a place where fans and professionals could gather, share passions, and make new friends. All of us here at the New York Anime Festival are livid that a scam could have been orchestrated from our show floor. YEP! Not surprisingly, they were SCAMMERS! They tried calling me as well, telling me I had won, and that they would just need my 'credit card' information to confirm... something... but this call came AFTER I found out about my debit card being attacked by the Chinese food rat trap, so I wouldn't have been able to give them my card information anyhoo. MOST of these vacation deals are scams anyway, and I wasn't interested in a vacation to the Bahamas anyhoo, so yeah. ;b ~~Bee |
