The Girl Can Fly 

Stick figure fantasy/fairy tale about a girl who can fly, written and drawn by Ben Avery . . . and proving that he should stick to writing. It's a fun story, though, and was the first graphic novel he ever wrote . . .

Gideon's Army: The Quick and the Undead

In the mythic Old West, he's on a mission from God to cleanse the land of a deadly plague . . . of vampires. This stand alone story was introduce the character and world and be the first part of a larger story. Art by Joe Spicer.

The Ballad of the Freak

What happens when a writer pretends to be an artist? This happens. This story was selected to be in the 2006 24 Hour Comic Book Day Highlights book because, as I was told, "You aren't the best artist, but you told a story."

Psalm 40 

From Selah! The Psalms Project. The challenge: illustrate a Psalm. When I drew this, I literally was in the middle of page three . . . and looking forward to the hope of something better. And so I was able to draw the following pages as well.

The White Tower

A while ago, I thought a 24 Hour Comic Book was too much, so I suggested the 7 Day Creation Challenge. 7 days. 16 pages. A group of people on a message board I frequented took the month of October and we did the challenge. This was my entry.

The Servant

An Easter story from a different perspective, told by one of the people who was involved in the arrest of Jesus, that leads to a rather morbid punchline. But I couldn't resist. Artwork by Darren Brady. Originally published in Chosen Mortals #0.

Childe Rowland to the Dark Tower Came

Based loosely on Robert Browning's poem of the same name, this is a classic fantasy story of knights and heroism with a twist. With artwork by Mike Murphy, the story is circular, like a celtic knot . . .

The Little Debtor

A silent film on the page. Tim Baron, the artist, is one of the best comic artists not actually doing comics. Read the story once to experience it. Then read it again and just stare at those drawings . . .

I was in a Christian bookstore today and saw a promo comic that you're doing a bunch of writing for for Zondervan. that is very cool. Congratulations on that.
