Hey Joe! How are you liking Comic Space so far? I am trying to make the rounds a little and comment to people I haven't yet. And your number came up.

So... trying to get back into comics after a break? hmmm.... the best comic I can recommend is Usagi Yojimbo(Dark Horse) It is a great book. Consistently great. But, judging from your comments about being a fan of early Image and Valiant stuff, you may not enjoy the art. Try it out for a few issues, it will gro on you. I have been collecting it for years, and I am hooked.

Anyway, aside from that there are very few mainstream comics that I collect or that I even feel like recommending. Although, if you like Manga, try out MBQ from tokyopop. It is awesome! Awsome art, naked ladies, hilarious hijinks, it has it all. Anyway, feel free to drop me a line anytime.

Hey, I am in MI, but I sometimes come out to Chicago for vacation. I'll be sure to scope out your store next time I am in town and leave with my wallet lighter.

Let me be the first to comment on here. I am from MI too. Although I have never heard of Flat Rock... must be a small town or a suburb. anyway, send me a message or comment sometime. I am eager to make some new friends on ComicSpace.

So, I am making the rounds to some of my friends on CS, and thought I would leave some notes with people that I haven't yet contacted... We are supposed to be "friends" after all. so I see that you are a main stream collector. I have recently lost a lot of interest in the mainstream titles, and have been branching out to more "lit" or "art" comics. I am enjoying the break from super heroes and enjoying finding alot of new things(new to me). Of course, my LCS people all call me a snob now, but who cares! It's my money.

Anyway, the mainstream titles that I still collect are Usagi Yojimbo(DH) Y the last man(Image) and the Goon(DH) and NextWave(Marvel)I think that's it. Anyway, Drop me a comment sometime.

So, now that I figured out that I actually know you in person-- how are you? I saw you at the meeting this month, but only briefly. Hope to see you at the next one. Later!

Drew, I have seen your work all over the place, and I am consistently impressed. You should be proud to be such a top tier creator. How jealous am I? Plenty.

Yul-- your bulletin was funny... I know exactly how you feel.

Thanks for the invite and the add... I checked out your various sites and I am impressed. Feel free to drop me a line anytime to chat about comics or anything. Oh, and welcome to ComicSpace!

It's not a secret anymore! Jeremy wants to make comics!

And he has a lot more time for it now, unfortunately.

hello, I'm so jealous... you are 2 years younger than me and look at how your career is going! My self loathing goes into overdrive when I see people (like so many others on this site) that have it together and are getting work. (Like yourself) So be proud! I am surely not the only one envious of those of you who are living the dream. Good luck.

so I am guessing you like Samurai? LOL I am a huge Usagi fan, and I am also into a few other samurai comics and movies. sounds like you are a hard core fan. Usagi is probably my main dose of bushido goodness though. I have been collecting that comic for the longest of any other book I've been into and I don't intend on stopping. I am looking forward to the issue 100 coming up soon. anyway, I thought I would drop a fellow Usagi fan a line. feel free to PM me or comment if you want to chat about samurai/Japan/rabbits/etc. or anything else.

Thanks for the greeting, I am always glad to meet another Usagi Yojimbo and samurai film fan, especially ones living in MI. In case you have not stumbled upon them during your internet wanderings, be sure to visit the Usagi Yojimbo Dojo ("official" internet website of the ronin rabbit) and the Ninja Dojo (the best web-site and forum for the fan of Samurai films)

[ Posted by BJDuVall on Jan 5th, 2007 12:41 AM ]...

Thanks for the info! Yeah, I have been to the Usagi Dojo, but not the Ninja one. I will check it out. I am probably due for some samurai movie action soon. good thing I am getting a netflix account this month. hopefully the wife won't mind me stocking up on Kurasawa flicks. I just read Usagi 99 and loved it. there is a cliffhanger leading to 100 if you haven't read it yet. Abayo!

[ Posted by usagigoya on Jan 5th, 2007 12:54 AM ]...

Actually, the cliffhanger ending of issue #99 does not pick up again until issue #101. Issue #100 is a special extra long issue featuring short stories by a bunch of Stan Sakai's friends from the comic community, all writing short pieces in a "roast" style celebration of Usagi Yojimbo releasing it's 100th issue from Dark Horse Comics. Of course Stan will be contributing some pages to the issue as well, but the issue will be completely out of the normal continuety of the normal series. Dark Horse Comics has also just posted a Usagi Contest on their web-site in celebration of the 100th issue as well.

[ Posted by BJDuVall on Jan 5th, 2007 5:55 AM ]...

Really? Well, I guess I haven't been keeping up at the dojo... I assumed it would just be maybe an extra long issue or something to that effect. What they have planned sounds pretty cool. Now I am even more excited.

can't wait to see what is in store. I think the comics posting thing couldn't come any sooner for me. this "coming soon" business is getting old. anyway, good luck, I will watch for your comic when you post some.

It is annoying, isn't it? Without seeing everyone's work, it's like MySpace, but without the benefit of scantily clad women and rock bands requesting friendship... or maybe that's just me... I'd be great to find some serious critiquers in the crowd and I know they're out there.

Anyway, I will definitely look for yours as well! Happy 07 and such.

[ Posted by BJDuVall on Jan 3rd, 2007 12:15 AM ]...

I agree with you 110%. I feel like I have a hard time finding things to dicuss with my friends list. all that will hopefully change when we can all show our work and blog etc. I am not a big MySpace fan(for reasons you mentioned), but this has alot of potential for us comics people. Oh, well... Happy 07 to you too... I'll keep an eye out for your work when it is available.

Hey, thanks for the add... I see that you are in Ypsi and I thought I'd greet a fellow Michigander. Good luck with your writing and comics... hope to see some of your work sometime.

[ Posted by BJDuVall to hutchowen on Dec 28th, 2006 10:38 AM ]...

Hey Tom, I am somewhat familiar with Hutch and some of your other work, but I haven't seen it around too much. Except last night while reading the 2006 best comics anthology that had one of your stories in it. I wasn't familiar with the Dennis character, but I enjoyed the story alot. The part where he pukes on the janitor's corpse gave me a serious cringe. I loved it. I am thinking about seeking out some more Hutch Owen. Just thought I'd give you some kudos. Keep 'em coming.

Hey, a while ago when I was seriously considering going to SCAD, I ran across your name somewhere associated with the school during my research. Forsaken was coming out then, so I checked it out and I liked it alot. It's too bad it didn't last at least a little bit longer. One arc would've been nice. Oh well, it sounds like you have been busy since. good luck!

Welcome to comicspace and Merry Christmas! Michigan, eh? check out the link in my content section--- maybe you would be interested in the MCN. Either way, nice to have you here.

Cool comic! I just sent you a Private Message, check it out. sorry that it is long-winded. Reply back if you have any questions or anything. Later!

Karl, I see your work all over the place, and I like it alot. Especially on Nightwing and Tom Strong, where I have seen it the most. Two things strike me as funny about your account here. 1)You copied your Wikipedia article instead of writing about yourself. 2)Your pic that looks like you are the spawn of Alton Brown and Hellboy. I kid. anyway, I met you once in Motor city, and you were nice enough to sign a bunch of my Nightwing's for me... thanks again.

I just checked out your stick figure goodness. Nice start! If you are going to do stick figures you owe it to yourself to check out the reigning champ of stick figure comics: Matt Feazell. His most famous character is Cynical Man. I don't think he has a lot online, but there are some here at>
http://home.comcast.net/~mattfeazell/NAComics.htm

Just thought I would point you towards him, he's great. You're not so bad yourself. Later.

Shannon! TMCM is awesome, and I miss him. Your comic is the only one that my wife will read... and I have been trying to get her into comics for almost ten years. She actually got me into TMCM not the other way around. I was floored to hear that the opera actually happened. I live in MI, and I think I would've considered flying out to see it if I knew about it in time (I remember hearing rumblings about it in the magazine, but I didn’t believe it would happen). I wish you would resurrect either the comic or the magazine, or launch TMCM into yet another new form. I hear that there was a comedy central cartoon in the works at some point... that would’ve been interesting. You know, ever since I read (I think it was #9) whenever anyone makes a joke about the famous coffee lawsuit, I vehemently defend the truth and cite you as the source. I once brought my philosophy class to a screeching halt over that issue. So thanks for that, among other things. Your best work will always be #6 and #7... probably the single best two issues ever... I kid of course. If you ever feel inclined, drop me a line, you would be making a die hard fan’s day.

I just read your fetus-X and it blew me away! It made me want to cut my hand off and replace it with something. Something dead.
