RE: Everything But Imaginary #212: When Will THIS Comic Get Made?
What are some great properties that could be made into comic versions?
Not sure what TV concept can be spun, but I think more video game properties can use the comic treatment. A few have already - but there's a ton more (some Japan import only). I won't get into compiling a list, since everyone has their favs, but the game medium can be converted easily into a comic medium. 3 Replies [ Latest posted on April 22nd, 2007 10:34 AM ]

Interesting observation, and one I honestly hadn't thought of (not being much of a gamer myself). I'm sure there are lots of game properties that would make good comics. |

Well, the comic industry already has METAL GEAR SOLID, SILENT HILL and HALO on the shelf. Not to mention CITY OF HEROES, and others. So yeah, there's potential there - and an audience. But as always.... hitting the right mix is the key.
RESIDENT EVIL franchise is doing well in the movie theaters.... you'd think a zombie comic would be new idea that.... OH... never mind....
Hah!
As for TV properties.... I'd like to see more drama-based shows in comic format. Hospital drama such as, GRAY'S ANATOMY could play well.... if seeded and promoted enough. It could tap into that elusive *everyman* reader instead of the narrow direct market. But do you think such books can survive nowadays? Titles that need to build an audience.... such as Terry Moore's STANGER'S IN PARADISE? Would that series be able to make it today if it were launched as it was back in the 1990s? |

It depends on a lot of factors, I think. A self-publisher like Moore who has the resources to stay the distance is a lot different from a major publisher that's always looking at the bottom line. I think, if the title can hang on long enough to put out a paperback or two, that would be the best chance for the line -- as we see with Vertigo, a publisher will be willing to cling to a lower seller if they think they'll make it up in the trade paperback market. |

Enjoyed the Harry Potter blog, Blake! Very funny.
And I have to say that a friend of mine did a study of the set-ups and pay-offs in the HP books, in order to determine which things haven't been paid off yet. She's got some interesting speculations on what might be in the last book.
It can be found at Amazon: What Will Harry Do? by Janet Scott Batchler.
Me, I'm looking forward to the finale. And I'll be willing to accept the ending of a well-told tale. But I suspect I might be in the minority. Heh. 1 Reply [ Latest posted on February 5th, 2007 6:59 AM ]

I'm with you there -- All I want is a good ending, and I've got faith in Rowling to give it to us.
I'll take a look for that book, sounds interesting. |

Thanks for the add, Blake! It's appreciated. And you can order the first issue of Bullet Time here: www.paperdragonz.com. Full of Dave Simons (Ghost Rider in the late 70's/early 80's) goodness, and some upstart jerk on writing. |

Doc, you don't know how much that means to me. We're pretty much starting from square one -- find a publisher, then start looking for a creative team, etc. -- but I will most definitely keep you appraised. |

I wish I could do it but The Jam is taking some moola to run for Wally and me, perhaps you could do a one pager for the INTER_FANthology book I hope to have out this year. I plan to get this book out as I don't ever want to be compoared to Rick. Do you have anything out now? |
 |
[ Posted by BlakeMP on Jan 13th, 2007 6:45 PM ]...
As far as comic book work goes, I've got a short story in "Futurius: Tales From the Plex Vol. 1" -- the link is in my profile. I've got two novels out as well. A one-pager in an anthology? I don't think that'd be difficult at all, and I'd really appreciate it. What sort of things are you looking for? |
 |
[ Posted by THEDOC on Jan 14th, 2007 12:00 AM ]...
Well he's been quite tonight probably needs to get his script writer time to rest up. And again I can off you space on my site once you get your projects strated to promote them. Just say the word. And inspite of what "Rick" said our con is a go we sold enough tables to break ever. |
 |
[ Posted by BlakeMP on Jan 14th, 2007 12:06 AM ]...
That'd be great, Doc, again. Thanks a lot, and I'll keep you posted.
I'd love to go to the con, but I don't know if that'll be possible this year. I'm a high school English teacher, so that rather limits my availability (and money). ;) |

Morning Blake, As far as the IF book goes we are pretty much open to whatever you might want to use. I will check out your profile. Do you have artists that help you already? Well we have enough tables sold to get the con going now we will be making the public awarte. DOC |

[ Posted by BlakeMP on Jan 14th, 2007 1:24 PM ]...
No regular artists, I'm afraid, but there may be a person or two I could persuade if I put together the right idea. Would a one-page humor strip be appropriate? |

Hi there! We’re starting up this year’s Small Press Idol…and wanted to invite you to the grand unveiling of this year’s Guidelines. I apologize for the all-in-one nature of this. At this time, individuals and teams have a little over a month to get things together and be ready to post their Round 1 entries. Round 1 will last till March 25th. It’s a solid window to get a project together and qualified for Round 2 past our judge panel. If you are interested in being a contestant, this is fair warning to get a project going! If you are a news outlet or resource of any sort, we invite you to help spread the word about Small Press Idol, and get on the official Sponsors and Supporters list on the Idol Main Page. Traditionally, the page has gotten hundreds of thousands of hits a month for the 5 months the contest runs. All we ask in return for the link placement on our prominently placed list, is a link back in some way that is fairly prominent, and that you indeed cover the contest if you are a news site. You can contact us about that right from the guidelines page. Just want to watch the show? That’s great! Now is time to sign up at the site so you can VOTE in the rounds to come, and post comments about your favorites! We’re expecting hundreds of contestants this year. It should be a lot of fun!
http://www.dimestoreproductions.com/SmallPressIdol /Idol07/index.html
Hope this message reaches you in the spirit it was intended, you are welcome to ask questions, and otherwise make sure this is for real. This is the fourth year for the SPI. Last year’s contest pages are still online. So that’s what this is about, hope it interests you!

Hey there Blake, thank ya for the nice comments regarding the now sadly defuncked OTR Podcast. http://tucker.libsyn.com You know if there was a way to go back to it in some form, maybe totaly on my own and not dependent on a network, or just a more open comunity. I also had issues with not being able to produce a show every week. but who knows I might just host it on my own server and direct to it with a rss feed, and not be depended on libsyn. |
