Howdy~

Today I want to talk about a couple of Mikes. Michael Mauser and Ms.(Michael) Tree. Together they were the stars of a 3 part Limited Series from FIRST Comics. THE P.I.'s was a great idea, and it was handled quite well. Max Alan Collins, Joe Statton & Terry Beatty really had a fun time putting this book together and you can tell by the fun that you have reading it. Yes, it does have some of Staton's cartoony art to it, and E-man makes an cameo or two in the book, but don't be fooled... this is a gritty story like most of the Ms. Tree tales that have been told. And, I have too say that the art is outstanding. I'd love to see these two artist work together again sometime. They each have a style that most fans can pick out, but when they work together you get the best of both styles,

I don't have any of the Charlton books that featured Mauser back-up stories, but I do have quite a few of the MS.TREE books that came out in the 1980s. I think it's time to dig them out and give them another read or two. This site is a good place to start to get some more info on MS.Don't call me Michelle TREE

If you are a fan of Westerns, or if you just like a well told tale, then you should try to find Despradoes: Quite of the Grave by Mariotte & John Severin. This is a great read with outstanding art. John Severin had a long history of drawing War and Western books and he has an excellent sense of pacing and layout. The colors (Nick Bell)are outstanding and I just really enjoyed this book. I hope that you have read this story and that you try to find the other books in this series, created by Jeff Mariotte & John Cassaday.
From there I'd suggest the new LONE RANGER, from Dynamite Entertainment, or JONAH HEX, from DC Comics.
Long Live The Western~

I've been digging into my longboxes trying to find books that I can part with. My collection has gotten way beyond the point of out of control. A side effect of trying to prune out a box is that you come across a book or two that you haven't looked at for years. That's what happend to me this weekend. I was going thru a box and came across HOWARD the DUCK.
Well, that ruined my whole weekend. Getting my taxes done, scrubbing that bathroom, washing the car and changing the sheets on the bed. All those plans went out the door as I sat down and read these clasic stories featuring a hero "Trapped in a world he never made!" These were great stories and to see them in their original format, with the ads, Bullpen Bulletien, and letter pages, I spent a whole day reading them from cover to cover.
If you happen to come across Howard at the shops or cons, pick him up. This great series will help you forget that terrible movie from the 1980s' that left a fowl taste in everybodies mouth.

I was born a poor black child in the south..... no wait a minute I think that was Steve Martin.
I was born in 1967 and came to know and love comics in the 1970s and that is the reason why I love a magazine called BACKISSUE!
I've been buying this magazine off the stand at my local comic shop everytime for every issue, but I did miss one issue since the shop did not order extra copies for the stand that month (shame on them!) so I decided that it was time for me to just get a subsription to the dang thing. The current issue (#20) is chock full of goodness such as an in-depth article on the HUMAN FLY book that came out from Marvel. I have all of those issues, but I haven't read them since I bought them off the stand. Thanks to this magazine, I've dug out all 19 issues of the HUMAN FLY. This aftenoon I'm going to grab some root beer and corn chips and reread these great stories by Bill Mantilo and Frank Robbins.... ah to be a kid again~~~!

I picked upThe SPIRIT #2 this week and I must say that this is the BEST book out right now! I encourage all of you to pick up this title. Darwyn Cooke is giving his all on this book. If you never read any of the past SPIRIT books (shame on you!) that won't matter. This title stands on it's own and I'm going to be marking my calendar to pick up each issue every month, and so should you!

I've been a comic book fan since the mid 1970s' and in the early 1980s I worked in some comic shops and would sell my books at comic conventions in the Great NorthWest. Since then I've always been involved in comics one way or another.

I like to use the skills that I have learned from running my own business to help promote all things comic related.

I enjoy collecting orginial comic book art. I've only been buying art for the last few years. It can be expensive, but I always like looking for a good deal.

"Those Dreadful Things" (that's what Aunt May called comic books in the first Spider-Man movie) that I enjoy collecting are: AVENGERS, Atlas/Seaboard titles, Bronze Age Marvel books, some DC Comics from the Silver Age and Golden Age books (when I can find them)

New Stuff: nothing on a regular basis. When I goto to the local comic shop, which is only once a month or so, I just pick up what ever catches my eye. The last time that I went I grabbed The PHANTOM #12 & #13 (Moonstone books) which were good. I plan on picking up more of there books next time I'm in the shop. From DC Comics, I've been enjoying SUPERGIRL & THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROS, 52, the new JSA and the new JLA. I'm not currently buying any Marvel comics. I just can't seem to get into any of them. Kinda sad.....

I'm looking forward to connect with old friends here at ComicSpace, and to make some new friends.

They had a teaser of him (Tyroc) on the cover of Legion of Super-Heroes #15 (the issue before they changed the title to Supergirl and the Legion of Super-Heroes), but it was just an effect of Infinite Crisis and the brief recreation of the Multiverse.

Brian, you debonair devil! I am so thrilled to see you here! I was just telling Jim in a very whiny voice that I wish we lived closer to you!

I hope you are okay and have power at your house. That windstorm was a doozy!

I am craving a black and tan, so we will have to make the journey again soon!

Thanks for the comments~ I should have figured that you would be the first one...
I lost power for a day and a half, but I spent most of that time at a party. I didn't even have a  (course I did have a few manhattans)

When are you guys going to come on over?

Be Well,
Brian
