Bulletin: Howdy~

A while ago, okay, so it was over a month ago.... I went to a comic con down in Portland, OR http://www.portlandcomicbookshow.com with my good friend JASON METCALF Jason's art page and had a Grand Ole Time! I have not been to a show in the Rose City for ages so it was really nice to go and see old friends and make quite a few new ones.

The main reason why I went to the show was to keep Metcalf company. I really didn't do a good job at that because I kept wondering away from his table to look for some funnybooks that I just couldn't live without. Jason kept lifting his head up from his artboard, looked around, and said "Brian????"
Next time I'll stay put Jason, promise!
But the deals were so good! I got stacks & stacks of comics for pennies on the dollar. Let's face it: in these tough financial times we all are looking for deals!

One of the great finds that I got was a .50 cent TEEN TITANS #44 (Nov. 76)

Written by Paul Levitz & Bob Rozakis with the art of Pablo Marcos & Bob Smith. I gotta tell ya, this is a book worth seeking out and paying top dollar for (current value: $6.00). It's the first story after a four year hiatus.!

How can you not love dialogue like this:
Robin: Stay cool Donna (Wonder Girl) we're here on business! High school put-downs are out of place.

or Kid-Flash, thinking to himself: There goes my chance to get together with Wonder Girl! Mr Amorous Arrow showing up and I'm thrown out of the running!

Then the Villain of the piece shows up, Dr. Light! and does he have a plan! Kidnap Wonder Gal and the rest to find out the secrets of the JLA's headquarters (22,300 miles above the Earth) and then he'll blow the JLA out of the sky! errr... space.

Not too sure, but I think that this might have been part of the story that lead to the IDENTITY CRISIS anyways... after a few panels of 'woes is me' Mal Duncan picked himself up by the leotards and figured out that he was the only one who could save the TT's (by this time they have all been captured by Dr. Not-So-Bright-Light)
Mal (Now calling himself The Guardian) took the Titans mini-rocket to the JLA satellite. He surprise Dr. Dim-Bulb and frees the Teen sidekicks and they quickly turn down the Light. The Flash (Barry Allen) makes a small cameo, telling the kids that they did alright.

All in all well worth the two quarters that I spent on it. I even picked up a few more issues and I'm looking forward to reading them soon.

I might even share my thoughts with you on them. Aren't you lucky?

Final thought:
The art was very 1970's, all in all very good for the story. If you get a chance look it over and let me know what you think of the art. I see a similarity to Gene Colan artstyle in this book. I don't know if it's Pablo Marcos layouts and overall art or if it is the inking of Bob Smith, but as I turned every page I expected to see Dracula pop out of the background.

Be Well
Keep in Touch
Do Good Work
