| Header: | Mega Con At A Glance | ||
| Bulletin: | As you all may have known by now, a couple weeks ago P9P attended Mega Con in Orlando, Florida. And of course that meant that I was right there manning the booth and promoting my weasily black guts out over my coloring work :) Previous years P9P had been in Artist Alley at Mega Con but this year, decided to try something new and have a booth on the main sales floor of the con. See if we saw a difference or not. We faired well. All in all it was a very interesting, fun, and hectic weekend to be certain. Chasen and I got to Orlando a few days early before the con because we had an appearance scheduled with A Comic Shop (literally a comic shop in Orlando across from Full Sail) to set up a table in their shop and do a little P9P promoting. ![]() The guys of A Comic Shop are incredibly nice, and the atmosphere was just really fun. We spent about 6 or 7 hours there meeting and greeting people and Chase sketched his little heart out. After all was said and done, A Comic Shop has started this ritual apparently that whoever makes appearances at their shop...signs and does a little doodle on their bathroom door. LOL. So Chase signed and did a little sketch on the door, and we left having acquired new comic buddies, and we knew we'd see them at the con that weekend. ![]() The first day of the con was surprisingly not AS slow as the average Friday of a con usually is. This may be due to the fact that Mega Con decided to make the time the con was open from 1-7 p.m. Might be a definite wise decision on their part. Seemed to work! I got to meet a couple of My Space friends almost right off the bat. This really cute couple from Florida that are huge Resident Evil fans and I saw their costumes and photos and such on My Space, thought they were really awesome and asked them to stop by the booth so that I could take photos with them in all the diff costumes they were going to be in. They were so cute, and such nice people. Really glad I got to meet you guys :) Our friend Raven who we met for the first time back in August at Orlando Comic Con, agreed to help out with the booth a little this year and so she and I chatted it up in between the slow parts of the days over the weekend. ![]() We met lots of interesting people, which is usually a given at these cons. Three of my Aria Cheylon prints that I colored sold, and so that I was pretty ecstatic about...and the cover of Ecru Visions that I colored seemed to get a pretty good reaction from those that looked it over. It was a really great feeling to have something laying out on the table that I could immediately point at as a quick reference to my coloring work. :) Chase yet again did a lot of sketches and/or commission work during the con. They seemed to have flowed in packs. He'd be working on one person's sketch and someone else would stand there and watch him and decide that they wanted one too. ![]() Saturday was of course the busiest day of the weekend. There were just really floods of people on the con floor. One thing I happened to take notice of though, is it seemed that there were a slew more amount of anime fans...and people dressed up as anime characters then there were people interested in comic books. Did this play a part in the slight decline of comic book sales? Maybe, or maybe they just happened to be migrating around our booth, lol. ![]() Saturday was also the day that I got to meet several of my friends. Mike aka Chex who I met for the first time in Wizard World Texas stopped by for but a brief moment, so I was glad to see him again. My friend Kittie whom I've talked about several times in these blogs and on my My Space pages, lol. And I got to meet her husband for the first time as well. I got to meet Big Chris! An artist friend from My Space, and I got to meet Rantz, an artist friend that I first met on Deviant Art :) If there's anyone I am forgetting...my utmost apologies, lol. Sunday was yes the sad, but eventful last day of the con. One of the first things I did was swing by the celebrity signing area on my way to the bathroom and I noticed that Kevin Sorbo was already signing. I wanted to meet Kevin, I really did but for $30 bucks for an autograph and $20 for a photo? K yeah he's cool, but not THAT cool. lol. And then I noticed a line for Jamie Bamber was already starting to form. Jamie Bamber plays Apollo on the tv show Battlestar Galactica. Chase and I are both fans of the show and I went back to tell him a line was forming, and since Chase himself couldn't leave the booth he told me to go stand in line...and meet Mr. Apollo. So, I did. I went and stood in line with my 5 bucks in hand for a photo all by me onesies. I was ok at first...until I neared Jamie and I started to get a tad nervous, I always do that it drives me nuts. Long story short, I got to meet him...I made a butthead of myself, and he's a really cool, sweet guy. LOL. Raven and I were selling our little hearts out when from afar we spotted a guy dressed up as Green Arrow but from SMALLVILLE! We were both literally shocked and went immediately fangirl crazy. That costume is fairly new wasn't expecting to see anyone in the thing, not to mention the costume was really good, and the guy could've easily passed for him. So we of course practically leapt over the table to get some photo ops, he was really nice about it all too! ![]() All and all the weekend went fairly well, we got to try out our new display and got to see what life was like on the main floor. One's thing for certain, its more expensive, lol. We also gained a new artist friend named Michael Hansley who spent a good deal behind the booth with us eager to learn a few tips from Chase on drawing :) So Carly you just spent almost an entire week in Orlando, and just got done with a comic con...what are you gonna do now?! I'm goin to Disneyworld!! And we did :) we spent the day before we left back for home at the Magic Kingdom, and even though it was as crowded as sin we certainly made the most of it :) ![]() Not too much else news as of yet, just getting ready to really try hardcore at getting some coloring jobs and commissions, so if any of you out there know someone who needs a colorist for a pin up, cover or anything please send them my way :) |
