It's all about ME. ME, ME, ME!:

Hello, hello, hello! My name is Cayce (that's K.C.) and I'm a native Miamian. I'm a visual artist of many media including graphite, ink, paint (watercolor, acrylic, oil,) clay, supersculpey, wire, etc. - mostly traditional old world media, although I do dabble with 2D computer art.

I'm relatively new to the comic book scene. I mean, I've always drawn comic-booky characters, I just never knew that that was what they were. Before 4 years ago, most of what I knew about the comic book world came from cartoons and movies made from the original books.

My "style" is different with every story. It depends on the mood and content of the script, whatever complements it and helps the story flow. Two examples of this are "Brainwash Backfire" and "The Road Not Taken." In "Brainwash" I chose a very cartoony and squishy style because the story is a symbolic political satire and I wanted each reader to be able to personalize it. "Road" on the other hand is my interpretation of Robert Frost's poem by the same full name. I felt the poem was pretty much straight forward and had a real-world quality to it, so, I chose to illustrate it in a more realistic style.

Besides art, I love to play sports (right now it's soccer,) read, listen to music and watch movies.

Edumacation:

Since Elementary school I've been attending "Miami Mega Magnet" schools (schools for the arts.) After graduating from high school I attended Savannah College of Art and Design, where I ended up graduating with a double BFA in Sequential Art and Painting in late 2006. I am so indebted to the professors I had there in both majors, they taught me so much and gave me a lot of confidence - YOU GUYS ROCK!!

Now:

I'm kind of in limbo right now, just trying to find my way. I have so much I want to do in, what feels like, so little time. I would love to write and draw comics, paint, sculpt, do conceptual design, illustrate, do interior design, prop design and construction, animatronics, stop-motion animation, antique furniture restoration and painting, pupeteering, special effects for movies, storyboarding...the list goes on and on.

Pre-Painting Sketches

These are random pre-painting sketches. I'll use a clear spray paint over the pencils to protect them. Then I'll paint over with either acrylic or oil paint. I like to let the pencils show through the paint... I'm a big fan of seeing the process.

Hello Cayce,
It was really nice meeting you at MegaCon, hope you had a good turnout, thanks for the books, haven't read all of them as of yet but started on "Jabberwocky".
Hope you've had a chance to visit my site at; www.surfaceartstudios.com it's a little more classical style art as far as comics go a reflection of the period when I was reading them.
Had an old girlfriend with the same name as yours but spelled Casey...unrequited unfortunately...:(
thanks again, best of luck on your future projects,
Shawn Surface
