Do you remember when you first started to collect comics? I do. It was the end of the summer vacation in 1985. We had visited some relatives out of state and while there, we hit the local flea market as it was the last weekend and most dealers and such were making great deals before closing for the season. I had always had an interest in art always drawing and such, but had really never read a comic since I was 6 or 7.

Walking around I stumbled upon a table full of white boxes with the 'books' wrapped in "plastic". Looking closer I see they were indeed comics. Flipping through I pull out a Captain America #183. A very striking cover as it shows ole Cap to be dead! Looking inside the comic I give a quick glance and hit the back page. There is a full page Kirby splash of Steve Rogers putting the CA costume back on. (We all know he had been Nomad for awhile.) Whoa! The page was spectacular and had me hooked. So I quickly bought up a few Cap issues while there and continued reading while on the road.

I started out as purely a "Marvel Zombie". If it wasn't Captain America, X-Men or Avengers I rarely gave it a second look. Occasionally I would wise up to a series such as Watchmen on a friend's recommendation. Then soon I was collected titles all across the realm of comicdom. Years later I would find myself buying out whole collections from people, shop closings, and comic shows. I then decided that I would try and keep one copy per issue of anything I did not own. Now 20+ years in, I have a rather large collection.
