ComicsCareer.Com is the leading site devoted to advancing the careers of comic book creators and cartoonists. This effort originally began in the late 1980s and early 1990s. In that ancient era, the information was distributed through a primitive process that involved applying black substances to a thin, flexible membrane called “paper.”

The 28 mostly-monthly issues of Comics Career Newsletter and its successor Comics Career featured news, interviews, and features of interest to comics creators.

Now in the 21st century, ComicsCareer.Com is devoted to publishing the best information available for established and aspiring comics creators.

ComicsCareer.Com launches a yearlong interview project
An interview with a different comics creator every day for a year

ComicsCareer.Com has launched an ambitious effort to publish interviews with 365 comic book and comic strip creators in 2009 at the rate of one interview per day. Called "10 Questions for Comics Creators," the project poses a list of questions related to the creator's craft and career.

The first interview – with artist and writer Phil Hester (Swamp Thing, Firebreather) – was posted to the site's main page on January 1st. Other creators scheduled to appear in the first week include writer Bobby Nash (Demonslayer), colorist and author Brian Miller (Hi-Fi Color for Comics), and writer/artist Jimmie Robinson (Bomb Queen).

See the current index for published and upcoming 10 Questions interviews here.

ComicsCareer.Com's publisher Kirk Chritton says the interview subjects will be wide ranging. "We hope to present a broad cross section of creators from of all genres, eras, and experience levels. And, unlike most interviews you read these days, our '10 Questions' format is geared to understanding the craft of creating comics."

The ten interview questions ask about subjects including work routines, tools, and advice for young creators. "I love the idea of getting 365 talented people to answer the same set of questions," Chritton said. "As the year progresses, I think it will be fascinating to compare the answers of various writers and artists. Plus, we've designed the questions to get the subjects to tell us things we never knew, like who was the biggest influence on them outside of comics and what they do to recharge their creative batteries. One upcoming subject has cited Salvador Dali as an early influence and says he takes his old Ducati motorcycle up into the mountains so he can focus on nothing but the tarmac."

Chritton says he's actively seeking creators to participate in the project. The questions and instructions are posted on the ComicsCareer.Com website at http://www.comicscareer.com/?p=238. "We want to build enough momentum so that we have enough interviews to power the project right into 2010 and beyond," he said. "Right now we're relying on a viral effect to generate the interviews. I got it started by emailing the interview questions to the people I know, and I've asked them to forward it on to colleagues who might want to participate. We're receiving these referred interviews already, and more than one publishing company has forwarded the questionnaire on to the creators they're working with."

ComicsCareer.Com is a website devoted to the craft of creating comics. Chritton and his wife, Kelly Bever, launched it in September 2008. The couple originally published Comics Career Newsletter as a magazine in the early 1990s. The zine ran for 28 issues and helped launch the careers of a number of the creators of that decade. Fan favorite Jason Pearson won a contest in issue #23 to land his first professional comics assignment.

Chritton has been involved in creating comics for more than 20 years, including writing series for Now Comics and Malibu Graphics. "I stepped out of the industry for a decade or so, but I couldn't stay away. Comics Career is a compulsion for me. I enjoy creating comics, talking to creators, and helping creators advance their careers."
