Hello one and all!

My name is Nigel Lowrey and I used to be quite involved with the less alternative UK small press comic scene back in the 90s, primarily as a comic artist but occasionally as a strip and feature writer too. Apart from a ton of horrendous early art by myself being published as a result, the experience did hone my comic art to a much much better level than I started with and at the height of my output, I could do a full length pencilled, inked and lettered comic a month plus other projects in-between.

The best of my works were Rol Hirst's excellent The Jock series ( which is due a return when I get around to completing the new relaunch - make friends with Rol here now!) and my own character Silver, unintentionally Hellboy-type stories that had their tongue firmly in cheek.

Work and other pressures led to my artwork falling off but with 2007, I hope to gear up for new work.

Growing up, my favourite comics were X-Men, New Teen Titans, Legion of Super-Heroes and later the legendary Giffen/DeMatteis Justice League International but my current fave reads include Y: The Last Man, Fables, Ex Machina, The Walking Dead and Runaways, all of which I get in trade. My all time favourite titles are probably the afore mentioned JLI, A Distant Soil, Bone, Starman, Preacher and the Rocketeer (I'm looking forward to seeing the upcoming action figure).
I don't really follow writers but my favourite artists (in no order) include Adam Hughes, Chris Sprouse, Kevin Maguire, Colleen Doran, JH Williams III, P Craig Russell and Eric Shanower, among a handful of others...Rude, Wieringo, Ross, Stevens, the list goes on...

I'm just starting here so expect links, icons and wotnot in the next few days.

That doctor's office comic has always been one of my favourites. Ity was printed in Rol's ESCAPE COMMITTEE, was it not?

Yeah, i think it was the backup in either #2 or #3, I'd have to go digging to find my copy, if I still have it....

This is weird for me to say, but your artwork has improved considerably! I always loved your stuff - who didn't? - but now...WOW! Crisp, clean, professional. Glad you've decided to return to the fold. The small press world was a darker place without you dude!

Hi, Stephen, how ya doing? Thanks for the kind words...hopefully there should be more stuff coming through soon, some of it a bit different, some of it not...

You've heard this before but your art is amazing. My favorite is that black widow, and judging from those comic pages you're also really good at backgrounds, something I need to work on.

Thanks for the comments, always good to get feedback. I've looked at your stuff and think your storytelling is good and your basic handling of the figure is stronger than mine was at your age. Backgrounds are dull but a necessity...my tip is to keep a file box of reference: catalogues or pics from mags, that sort of thing. We can all draw TVs but they look better based on real models rather than one out of your head (unless you're an excellent artist!). Or look at DVDs...if you're drawing a courtroom scene for instance, think of such a scene on a film you may have, watch that scene and adapt that room to what you need. It's still dull drawing but the end results will look better!

Yeah, I think Kevin Smith may be one of the most amazing peple on the planet.

Dunno if I'd go that far but I'm a definite fan of his stuff. I have a two-page Jay and Silent Bob strip lying around since I drew it for a Wizard contest that was eventually cancelled. I want to upload them here and while the comments and actions contained are not offensive, the language is as I kept in style with the films. Dunno if posting them would contravene Comicspace decency rules...
