I'm Acadian and from New Brunswick, Canada, but I currently reside in Southern California. My first language is French, and my second, English.

I'm a freelance mixed-media and digital artist, and my latest project is the coloring, logo design, and cover(s) for Hollow, which will be published next year by Archaia Studios Press.

My favorite comics are A Distant Soil, Sandman, Death, Artesia, and Asterix. My favorite manga is Saiyuki. I don't read much capes-and-tights stuff anymore, but I used to really dig MoonKnight and Cloak and Dagger in the 80's.

I am also a reverend and I am the vocalist for my independent band, Dangerous Beauty, which is unfortunately currently on hiatus due to getting comic stuff ready.

I am disabled with my very own s(t)uperpower, courtesy of Addison's Disease (update-- caused by Lupus, I have now discovered): I am so acutely sensitive to any kind of chemical that I can smell amounts so minute that they're undetectable to just about everyone else, and I can taste them just by touching a 'contaminated' object. This would be an amazingly useful ability, except that my immune system is NOT superpowered and can't cope... so I'm allergic to civilization. On the other hand, I can also detect when food goes bad, tiny gas leaks, fumes from faulty electrical wiring, so my household often escapes disaster by the skin of my adrenals.

...But it makes me well-suited to working in this particular artistic field, since I can relate to the characters that I color. ^^

Thank you! Your stuff is really good, too. I love that nadir cover, and the detail on those batman pages is fabulous. XD

Hey Danielle,

I'm from the only Acadian state in the US, Louisiana. I'm not Cajun but I can cook like one. :-)

Striking use of color techniques and a story that appears to have a lot of ideas in play. I'm looking forward to seeing it in October.

Thank you!

You know, I really like your linework. I think it'd be fun to color something of yours sometime, and see how it turns out.

Nice work on the Gallery. I recall seeing some of those pages in black 'n white - before color. The mixed media is very interesting. I'm a bit confused on the word balloons on page 5... is "Powder" speaking.. or is the woman speaking through Powder?

Thank you!

It's confusing right now, because it's the second half of a scene and the kid who is speaking is autistic and usually only speaks in other people's quotes. He's quoting something one of the black kids said earlier, when they were helping him get his money back from an unscrupulous coffee barista who was trying to rip him off.

They came to his aid, and afterwards, decided to hang out with him. Contrary to the kid's mother's opinion that they're picking on him, they were simply amused by him spitting out things that they'd said.

(A similar incident happened to Larime and I a while back, so we figured we'd toss it into issue 1 with a few points changed.)

Hey there Danielle - great to "meet" you! I was just telling Larime, via comment (bless the interweb) how great Hollow looks. Hope we get to catch up soon,

- Nick

Likewise! 'Awakening' looks really great, too. I love that kind of style.

Welcome to the Archaia "family" Danielle. Mark and Aki have been generous and terrific people to be associated with. Brian has done wonders in publicizing my book, The Lone and Level Sands.

I'm anticipating two new books with them this year. One will be a follow-up to LaLS by A. David Lewis and myself, to be called: Some New Kind of Slaughter ~or~ Lost in the Flood (and How We Found Home Again): Diluvium Myths from Around the World by mpMann and A. David Lewis.Slaughter is slated for December release.

The other project is Inanna's Tears with Rob Vollmar, currently being serialized at ModerTales Strip Lounge. We are looking for print publication this summer.

the work you've posted at deviantart looks varied and impressive. I'll look forward to seeing Hollow from ASP. Who else is associated with it? Tell us how you came to be involved.

Thank you! I'm honored to be a part of it. :) And yes, a major part of why we wanted to go with Archaia was because of how wonderful we found the people there. Another reason was the high quality of the series that they publish.

I'm looking forward to the follow-up; I really liked LaLS, both the writing and your really interesting art. XD

Larime, my husband, writes and letters Hollow, and Duncan Eagleson, who pencilled 'The Hunt' for Gaiman's Sandman, is pencilling it. I originally painted an image that inspired the main character, Sam (this will also be the cover for issue one), so when my husband went looking for a colorist, he decided to use me, because he didn't think that a smooth airbrushy look was appropriate for this series. And Duncan seemed to want to collaborate, because we both liked the idea of painting watercolors over his raw pencils.

I hope that all goes well with Inanna's Tears, too. It's so nice to see well-done historical graphic storytelling stuff out there, and I love that time period. And politics. And Sumerians.

Thanks for the add, miss. Real interesting profile you got there. Your situation is alot like the characters that have some real cool power, but have a real downside because of it. Its real inspiring. Keep all you stuff up, and may all your future endeavors be filled with financial success and happiness.

Tattoo artist and horticulturist? Sweet. :D So nice to meet another plant nut! (I like to grow organic vegetables and giant monster tropical plants.)

And I hope that things look good artistically and financially for you, too, this year.

You're s(t)uperpower is badass. Pity about the downside...actually it downright sucks, but the super-detection kicks mega-ass. If you could figure out a way to boost your immune system you might make a badass detective or something. ;)

Oh and your stuff is badass too.

J.

Yeah, right now I'm a shut-in. Total shame, I could make a fortune moonlighting detecting bioweapons or drugs or something. (LIke I said, stuperpower. DX)

And thanks! Your stuff is pretty cool, too! Nice and grungy. :D

I'll try to do that in the next couple of months, since we're kind of tight now. But it definitely looks like something I'd want to to, so thanks for bringing it to my attention. :3

How are the results going with the monitors, did you have any luck with photoshop? Well, have a good evening and I'll talk to you later!

[ Posted by danielle on Jan 4th, 2007 7:37 PM ]...

Yeah, we've got one here. My old machine died. This is pretty cool, but I'm worried that the minitor may not have enough color depth. I'll have to install photoshop shortly and experiment and look at the results on other monitors.

I know how fun that must be. I had a littl wireless network going with a few computers. So yea, trouble can hit the fan lol!
