I write and draw Walking Christendom, a comic book tale of two guys, walking through he woods. One is a Chinese monk with an amazing back story. The other is a Polish teacher, also with an amazing back story. The Pole is guiding the Monk through Europe. They are on a quest, on their way to Delphi, Greece. The first leg of their journey has brought them to Budapest. Each issue is 20-24 pages and have been selling for two bucks each.
There was a certain sensibility in the work of a guy like Hugo Pratt that I liked. I called them "hands-in-the-pockets adventure", the lead dude, while entirely capable of fighting every one of 'em, is also capable of making sure that they fight each other first. Thoughtful. Invigorating.
I loved Wm. Messner-Loebs Journey comic book, published by Aadrvark-Vanaheim, back in the '80s. Journey told the tale of an 1812 trapper, trying to cross Michigan (pretty much). Great writing. Unique art. Later, Bill drew for DCs wonderful and weird Wasteland comic. Find them.
I always dug Wally Wood's stuff enough to forgive his stiff poses. Oh, Steranko was sooo cool. Barry Smith Conan, too. Get those Dark Horse collections. Do it. John Severin is like unto a God.
Anybody out there ever appreciate Idiots Abroad as one of the finest comic book stories ever? Yeah, the Freak Brothers epic. It's great. It still plays. it's still timely.
Wow. You guys all have your own sites.
Man, if I could do three pages a week, I'd be happy right now.

With all due apologies to the creators of Watchmen.
I cut a copy of Watchmen into nines, put the pieces in a box, shook vigorously, and taped out the random pieces.
This project made me notice a number of details, now taken out of context.
