David, Thank you for giving me those comics at Mid-Ohio last weekend. I wanted to say Thanks. I teach 3 seperate groups of kids. One is comics, one drawing and one watercolor. My comic kids deeply appreciate your generosity and so do I. I have copies to use in teaching as well as copies I gave to the students. I have posted pictures of some of my class in your comments on my space. Gratefully, Russell Merritt Banshuwa Studio |

Thanks for the "befriendification" David! I met you briefly at the Chicago Con'. I admire your Daredevil work and what you have to say in interviews. My girflriend is voraciously reading Kabuki right now, so I'm next in line. Until next time!... |

Thanks for the olive branch. I've been a great admirer of your work for years (the only mask from the set I'm missing is the Kabuki one- typical), so I'll try not to gush too much. Just wondering- do you make much use of Painter in your work these days? |

David,
Thanks for the add, sir. I'm a huge fan of Daredevil and I really enjoyed your run on the title, especially the joint effort with Joe Quesada. I find you're unique approach to art and storytelling adds more depth to the characters. Keep 'em coming, sir! |

David,
thank you for the befriendification! Your work is a real inspiration to me! I like how much thought you put into combining words and images in your work and the meaning behind those combinations. Every time I read Kabuki I feel inspired. Thank you for all of this!

Hi David. I was interviewed by Art and Prose magazine and mentioned you in it. Here was the question and answer it appeared in. The issue will be out August 15th.
Question: What has been your biggest source of inspiration?
Answer: It's said that it's impossible to create an entirely new story. That everything written is an idea that's been done before. For some reason I am very stubborn and try to break free of this and create something as unique or at least as unexpected as possible. My goal is to do the impossible and to dream up something that's never been before.
On the other side of the coin, I have been inspired by books that I have read, to the point that I know my books would not exist in the way they do if I had not read them. John Saul is one of my favorite authors. Arrteck's name is a nod to The Neverending Story, as is the word Oren in The Dark Labyrinth. So it is an interesting concept to me to create something new while also being inspired. As far as comics go my two favorite writers are Terry Moore and David Mack. I met both of them and they are the two nicest guys you could ever meet. They were both very encouraging to me.
Hehe just a little plug since you guys are so awesome! |

I'll be looking forward to getting it. Some of the autobiographic stories are my favorite. Though it's hard to have a favorite part of your favorite book already! You really capture those moments you write about as if you're there. Like all the pieces of a memory you have. Your brain remembers events that occur but I believe it also remembers in sounds, movement, colors, half forgotten things, shapes, feelings... It's like you pull everything together on the paper and you get a sense of that moment you're describing more than words or art alone. It is just a masterful talent.
BTW, Your comment made my day! You're a real nice stand-up guy and my favorite artist ever!
My second favorite artist is Gil Bruvel. Have you ever seen any of his work? It has an otherworldly quality about it. Some of his city stuff is great. He comes up in a google search. You might like him to. 0_0
Thanks so much,
Jody |

Hey David. I picked up a trade of Kabuki, vol 4 I think. I've never read any of it before but it was awsome and I'm totally looking forward to the project you're doing with Rick Mays. Scarab I think, any idea when that'll be hitting the shelves? |

David,
I'm recovering today from a spending the last 4 days at the WonderCon. (One day of setting up plus three days of selling.) I didn't know that you were there. I just found out, and I'm sorry I didn't see you. My bad, I should have checked the listings. I'm sorry I missed you. I hope you had a great time. I'm going to go out now and enjoy some California sunshine.

I just read about your donation to Heroes4Heroes. You are amazing!!!
Mack Attack! Comic book creative powerhouse, David Mack sent three massive boxes of donations to Heroes4Heroes HQ which included 900 signed issues of Kabuki #1 - 4 comic books. Many copies will be a part of shipments to troops while others will be used in future fundraising initiatives. David had the following to say: " We want our service men and women to know we are thinking of them and I'm happy to help Heroes4Heroes in any way I can. They are putting so much on the line, the least I can do is send them signed comics to let them know they are thought of and respected and appreciated, and hopefully this gives them a little slice of home. |
