Dead_Squirrel_Girl
You can read, and even BUY Dead Squirrel Girl and Emmet: A 24 Hour comic at my website: Dead Squirrel GirlI graduated Cum Laude from the Savannah College of Art & Design in 2001 with a degree in Sequential Art & Video and film. I am originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and I am very proud of my cajun heritage. But, I've been living in Austin, TX for the past 4 years, and LOVE it here. I work for Blue Genie Art Industries , a commercial art studio, where we make large scale custom sculpture, murals, and just about anything you can imagine. On a usual day, I'm covered in styrofoam and paint. Dead Squirrel Girl was created in 1997 by my sister and myself. It started off as a ridiculous joke between us, but after sharing it with fellow students, and getting a great reception, I decided to keep going with it. Mark Schultz, of Xenozoic Tales, critiqued it, and he LAUGHED, so it was then on I was inspired to keep doing it. Here we are 9 years later, and the first graphic novel is now available, with more stories on the way. I've sold work at The Staple! Independent Media Expo and the Blue Genie Art Bazaar. I will be in the Radical Nautical show at Gallery Lombardi Aug 2nd, so come check it out! Wendy Pini is my personal goddess: ELFQUEST

Wow, thanks comic space for not alerting me to my message. Y'all probably already left, but if you didn't: PREPARTY at Austin books Friday night -- 8pm. Post Party on the East side, 10pm. We are in the same room, too, so I will be seeing you!
Y'all are next to Tedd Walley at the show, HA HA HA HA!! That guy is a total asshole, enjoy! |

yo! Staple was great even if our room didn't get much traffic. That guy who vandalized the mens bathroom and painted his name on the window bought an issue of my comic. I nearly freaked out when I saw his picture an recognized him. I also almost bought a squid. 1 Reply [ Latest posted on April 14th, 2007 2:28 PM ]

Staple was a blast! I'm all geared up to hit up a few more small press expos, maybe next year when i have a little more money.
I lot of people almost bought squids! I think I would have sold out if everyone who almost bought one did buy one! That's okay though, I was so busy at my own table, i forgot to go back and buy a lot of what i wanted from everyone! Is the tagger that guy up on the Staple message board with the staple shirt and a girl with him? I remember that guy. Boo.
The squids have been doing well selling online since a buddy of mine linked them on the official squid blog: http://www.squid.us Happytimes! |

Wow! That's ironic! I just met Scott McCloud 4 hours ago! He's here in Austin and did a meet and greet, I bought Reinventing Comics and got him to sign it. Talk about sychronicity, or serendipity, whichever word fits better there. |

So we are strangely bonded by the glue that is Scott McCloud...how wierd is that? Wanna hear something wierder I may have actually met you before I was reading some of your comics online last night and I saw your picture from the Crescent City Con and although I don't remember you at all there was only 1 Crescent City Con and I went to it so its possible I met you there...but I doubt it |

I went to the 2005 Crescent Con, which was 2 weeks before the storm. It was the last one they did, attendence was LOW. But it had been going on for 20 something years. It was at the Landmark hotel. |

Actually I was wrong it wasn't Crescent City Con that I went to it was called the Big Easy Con...so I'm sure I never met you before. I did do an ad for the Crescent City Con program once though this I am positive of. |

Hi Kirsten:
Thank you for interesting comment on my page about being girl in comics.
I think you might be more lucky because you live in a city where there are more artists and it normal to be "not normal". I live in Los Angeles and its the same thing. When I go to comic book shows here or to a comic book store-no one notices me. There's so many girls here that its nothing special.
But I think it is different on the internet. Where there are many people who really are conservative in how they think and act about their own stereotypes.
What frustrating to me is that I know that if I was a male-no one would question me. But because I a woman-at least on internet-I always in the position to have to prove myself. I feel like I need get resume and show people resume before I even get to start. Have you seen this problem for yourself?

Les is a great guy. Yep, I wouldn't miss Staple. Viper Comics will have a table, and I'll have my own as well. Hopefully right next to each other. |

Thanks for the add! You've got some pretty neat - albeit very strange :) comics...your art kind of reminds me of Cal Slayton's style |

I like the comic. I always get curious whenever people do the story-based comic, seperating these stories, style.
You worked it well. |

I feel some sort of kinship between your comic and my avatar. :D |
