I thought we were already befriendifyed. Are you going to San Diego? I'm so jealous! The whole gang is going! On the plus side though, I'll be in Chicago visiting my sister next week, and that's probably a more fun town than San Diego.

Thanks for the add and compliment! I keep meaning to put up a gallery, but have been swamped with making squids and commioned work, and haven't had a chance to do it yet! Soon soon.......

My Grandfather had a beautiful German Shepard named Neko when I was growing up. I loved that dog.

The only reason why I mention it is that I can tell there are some LAZY members on this site which only look at your gallery. LOL! Glad to hear you're swamped with work (may that always be the case).

Neko...what a great name for a pet! And kinda ironic...

Hello fellow Rouger!! My mom sends me newspaper articles every day about how the video game industry has sprung up back home and how I should move back. Nope, don't think so, Mom, sorry. All the huge video game companies are here in Austin anyway.

Good to meet you!

I finally bought Pantheon High! How'd y'all make out at Staple? I didn't sell as much as I would have liked, but still had a blast!

Duh, I rushed to get that art printed out for you and totally forgot to get it to you when I saw you! When I finally remembered at 6pm, y'all were GONE. I hope you got out of town okay and that my directions were good to you. I'll mail you that drawing.

i didn't know we were refered to as "Scadies", that's funny. What year did you graduate, and who'd you take classes with? I was close to those professors, Mark and Bob especially. I wonder if Bob still shows people the Hello Kitty movie I made with him in it. :)

I officially recieved my degree in August 2005, but took most of my classes from 1999-2002. I got bogged down for various reason on my thesis (mostly my fault). Yes "SCADies" is what some of the locals call us , it may not relly be a term of endearment, but I've somehow picked it up. Mark and Bob are still the constance that keep that department together. John Lowe is now the department chair, you porbaly don't know him he was a grad student about the time you graduated. I had classes with Mark, Bob, David Gildersleeve, and James Sturm. Loved them al except for James, we just didn't click the same way. You most likely had classes with Mark Hudson, anyway he's teaching there now mostly the life drawing for sequential art classes. And I'm sure Bob still show that movie ocasionally, but I believe he has moved passed dressing up like Hello Kitty, or at least doing it less in public.

I knew Paul Hudson -- he was a grad student when i was there, and a buddy of mine, i knew he started teaching before he even finished his degree. I also heard that Mark Schultz did a guest professor class there -- I'm very jealous of that! I need to come back and visit ole Savannah, I'm sure it's a lot different now. Did you ever get to take any classes with Durwin? He was fantastic!

[ Posted by summey_anthony on Mar 4th, 2007 3:03 PM ]...

I was thinking of Paul Hudson. I had Concept Design with Durwin and Paul was his intern for that class. Durwin was real good teacher just the right mix. I think that was one of my favorite clases. but I love most of them.

Saw the Staple program last night, it looks good. You guys drive safely and I will see you all on Saturday (if not before at the pre-party Friday night).

Glad to frendify you too...friendification is such a weird word. Anyway glad to meet you your job sounds pretty cool. I'm going to have to check out your dead squirrel girl stuff on your website. I want to do a comic so bad I'm trying to write some stuff now and hopefully I'll get drawing soon.

[ Posted by Dead_Squirrel_Girl on Feb 12th, 2007 11:48 PM ]...

I recommend Scott McCloud's book, like Understanding Comics for help with writing and drawing. He brings up some great points that you might not think about, or stuff that you might know subconsciously. We used his stuff as textbooks at SCAD.

[ Posted by DorkinOutSince1971 on Feb 13th, 2007 1:12 AM ]...

Yeah I pick up Scott Mc Cloud's books everytime I'm in the bookstore. I've heard so much about how great they are I just have not broken down to buy them yet. I'll probably get Understanding Comics soon. I've got two comics I'd like to do I'll probably have to settle on one but I really just want to do it right and not be something that is meaningless. Thanks for the advice though I take it with great respect from someone who is already doing the comics thing. I look at what people like you are doing and I listen to the Indie Spinner Rack Podcast and I just want to be a part of the comics world. Thanks for the advice!!!

Hi there!

Are you coming to Staple? It's going to be a killer show, 60+ exhibitors, exciting! BRCS should meet the Austin Creators group, they'll be at the show too! It's coming up so soon! Yikes! I'd better be ready! :)

Great - look forward to meeting you.

We are usually at a table in the front section just after you walk in the door. No funny hats I'm afraid.

You could also look for the guy whose mug you can find here (Yep that's me..)

See you there

Well hello fellow Alumni! And you live in my hometown! Small world!

[ Posted by Dead_Squirrel_Girl to khwan on Jan 6th, 2007 7:44 PM ]...

Hey Khwan, wow! Your card is excellent! Very nice art.

I haven't experienced much sterotyping on the internet myself, but I don't get a lot of email or messages either. Sorry to hear you recieve that. I guess an attractive female sequential artist is too much and blows some little minds! We're here boys! Get used to it!

Thank you for the kind words Squirl Girl.
And I like your webcomic also!

One thing I should also mention-about the negativity-which I still get some of (but not close to what I got before)-I think its almost 50/50 from other women who like comics. Strange-but it true. It same I say before. Its all judgemental junk. But I just keep smiling and do what I do-and be who I am.

Excellent, I've been thinking we needed a comic group that met regularly (I've heard of the Sketch group, but have heard not a lot of people show up to the meetings, but haven't seen for myself).

I was one of the few female sequential art students when I first started my major in college, but by the time I graduated, females were not a minority anymore. Seems like the majority of indy comics are drawn by us gals. I've actually found now, at least here in Austin, no one cares anymore. So, if you're still getting that where you are, then people are just behind the times. That was amazing in 1978 when Wendy Pini was first paving roads.....but it's almost 2007 now.
