Hey Dermy, I never check comicspace anymore - all the cool kids have moved to facebook (I'm not a cool kid, but I'm there too). FPI signing is the 18th of Nov, so still plenty of time :)

Not long til bristol, the time are up on comicexpo.net for the portfolio reviews. I've only managed to get a half page done since last time :( A stupid 2000 word essay and 5000 word lab report got in my way. Lets see if i can do the 2 and a half pages left in one and half days... Hows your ultimate comics stuff coming along? |

Cheers for the comment fella. I really have no idea why you are worried about your art. It’s good. Really dynamic and have a brilliant grasp of page layout and inking. After three years of training with the best you are going to rock hard cock. I didn’t mean that to sound as gay as it did. Ah well. I’m so jealous that you actually got off your arse and got into Kuberts School (well deserved though). Not only are you gunna get a job in comics after, you get to spend 3 years in America with ladies who love the Irish accent. Man you are gunna have to be spectacular with your time management. Hope you keep us updated on how the course is going, what assignments they give you and how the ladies taste. Up the Celts. |

Thanks for the befriendification! Your work reminds me of the old Ron Smith Judge Dredd strips. Which is a good thing by the way: ) |

Love your pencils, good luck at Kubert. I'm sure you'll knock'em dead.If you ever need scripts to draw from drop me a line, that way when your a pro in a few years I'll have someone I can turn to when I need stuff done. |

hey derm--thanks for becoming my friend--like your pinups a lot--pinups are fun, but its time to jump in and do some COMICS, my brother--that means panel to panel, tell a story visually in sequence, designing for type, if not learning the lettering process outright--i encourage you to come up with your own story, but if you dont want to, there's this great place, full of text stories, featuring some great characters that you can adapt to comics form--it's called a LIBRARY--seriously, get a jump on this before you make it to kubert school, and keep me posted when you get some new stuff up--best--joe |

kubert school, eh? have fun there (your three years there should be some of the best years of your life!) you have a good grasp on your drawing already, so try to be as helpful to your classmates as possible with stuff you're familiar with while breaking your back learning new stuff and refining what you know. don't let anything get too easy, don't be afraid to make contact with editors while you're in school (no matter what anyone says you're ready for) and don't worry about preparing stuff for your portfolio until summertime each year (this isn't to say you shouldn't show your schoolwork around, but don't concentrate only on what your familiar with in each assignment - experiment and try new things regardless of how bad it might turn out, figure out what you like and integrate it into your work!) 1 Reply [ Latest posted on March 8th, 2007 7:24 PM ]

cheers man, and thanks aswell for the advice, really appreciate it. still cant believe im actually going, never thought id actually be accepted. il defenitely go out of my way to help my classmates out man, i know what its like struggling with your art and a small bit of help can really help when you close to breaking. iv done about 5 years worth of learning in the past year alone and my art has totally changed(not without me losing the plot a few times, and the whole fight with the guy in the supermarket because apparrentle he was nasty to me...and not because i was having trouble with one of my pages...), and even after all the work iv done im still far from content with what im doing so, il def take advantage of all the info im given. what was it like when you started? is it weird that im still a bit freaked out and awed that im actually going to the jk school, i mean its the KUBERT school? |
