RE: Black Women in Comics

http://www.blacksuperhero.com/

On their hero talk message board they have sections of databases of Black writers, artists, and those working in and around comics. At the very least the crowd gathered there should be able to answer the question.

It would make an interesting study, I'd like to know the demographics of women at all interested in comics. There's a podcast done by a woman that seems to insist that women are under counted all around. (It's called "I Read Comics" - in case you want to give a listen. She might be on this service as well.) She wondering why there are no counts, surveys or studies about women in comics.

Peace

OMG! I had no idea you could reply right on your page!

Hi Wilson! I hope I see you at the madness that is NYCC.

The poetry is wonderful!

Interesting read about Eyeshield 21, Volume seven. I don't read a lot of Manga (Japanese) for that very reason. A letter writing campaign to retail establishments...especially those on Comic Space...with a copy of the page enclosed...asking them not to carry the title would go a long way. I will be happy to sign a well scripted document and mail it to all of my local retailers.

I hope this works. I still haven't gotten the hang of this site yet.

As grumpy as I am about the situation, I don't want to see any book banned. However, I would really appreciate it if publishers added a preface to books that contained these depictions of black people to warn readers that they would find derogatory images inside. Then readers could make an educated decision as to whether or not they wanted to read the book instead of simply getting unexpectedly smacked in the face with racism.

After all, I may own music CDs that contain offensive lyrics regarding women, but because of those warning stickers on the cases, I knew exactly what I was getting into when I bought them.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to reading some of your work! And best of luck in your Web Design course!
