Bulletin: The Kickstart Newsletter #170 - December 17th, 2007

So what's going on... by Ian Shires

Well, it's been a couple months since I sent out an "official" Monday Kick Start...so it's about time we got this going again. Going to try an experimental version here to start, send it out in HTML in the e-mail itself, see how people like it and react to it. I also wanted to broaden it's scope a bit, since before, the SPA Kick Start only had the Dimestore site to report on, since the site changes, we now have 4 sites for people to focus their different interests on. I'm going to try to turn the Kick Start into a straightforward this is what's going on at each site, and then any other commentary or such we add to it each week will follow. The idea is to streamline, energize, and make this more useful to everyone. So! I'll head right into it, but let us know if this is more useful to you, if there is something more that would MAKE it more useful, or any other constructive comments that would help us improve. Also, each week, we're going to close out the Kick Start with a "Final call" listing of books that are about to go to the printers. Make sure to check that out at the bottom of the Kick Start.

DIMESTORE COMMUNITY SITE (www.dimestoreproductions.com)

We've gotten the majority of things working here now. This includes Galleries, Blogs, Personal Pages, the Review Section, the MAP, the Events Calendar, and the Buddy List (which still needs some parts developed to bring it into the profiles, etc...) Beyond that, Small Press Idol is in full swing now, first round projects are going up, getting judged, and passed on or rejected, with all the hoopla and controversy people have come to expect from Idol. Nothing big planned to change on the community site, so we'll be happy settling into the new status quo, getting to know new members, and otherwise getting ready for the Launch of Self Publisher! Magazine. So keep your eyes peeled there for that.

DIMESTORE DISTRO SITE (www.dimestoredistro.com)

The moving of all store aspects of Dimestore to it's own site has proven to be worth it so far. We're really still in pre-launch stage with it, but all systems are running smoothly at this point, and we're ready to amp up the store, now that the submissions forms are back online. I still need to do a bit of rewriting on the information about submitting, the details that explain payout levels, and options publishers have for being listed, etc. There's a bit of a wait and see going on with that, and we know word's leaked a bit about our talking deals with Cold Cut, but we're not ready to announce anything yet, so people will just have to watch this newsletter for updates as we go. Basically this week: I'm ready to start taking orders from what's listed, and will begin getting more images up and then work on new products soon.

SPA COMICS SITE (www.spacomics.com)

We've just launched this site in the past week into preliminary action. There's a TON of work to do on the site to bring it to be the co-brand imprint's focus and shining light...we're just starting to get the actual imprint members to go there, so don't expect much. It has it's OWN forum, and will otherwise begin to claw towards presenting Mysterious Visions, it's off-shoots, and it's member studio books, in new and interesting ways that will help connect titles with fans.

INDYFEST USA SITE (www.indyfestusa.com)

Indyfest is going into full swing mode, tables are available, we'll have the guest list, MAP, and as much other info as we can get up that people want to see about it, this week. We'll be blanketing the SPACE and GEM shows with fliers and seeing if we can't get this show sold out right off the bat. Keep your eyes peeled to the guest list!
