| Bulletin: | The Kickstart Newsletter #173 - March 17th, 2007 Dimestore Makes News!! by Ian Shires If you've been on the forum or homepage, you've probably heard that Bob Sodaro has joined Dimestore as our new News Editor. Bob, who's first published work was in Amazing Heroes #5 (circa 1985), and has contributed to numerous publications including Wizard, Heroes Illustrated, Flux, Combo, Non Sports Cards Collectibles, and — a whole bunch of others, will be co-ordinating the posting of News on the Dimestore homepage, and working with Ken Olson to gather stories for Self Publisher! Magazine. So right now, we're settling Bob in so he can post things the way he wants to, and build a news team to work with. So spread the word, and take note, to keep your eyes on the Dimestore Homepage! DIMESTORE COMMUNITY SITE (www.dimestoreproductions.com) So Small Press Idol 2008 - Round 1, has come to an end...with a few more last minute projects to go up and be judged, the final tally is 26 projects have come into the contest, so far, 13 have officially been voted to Round 2, 6 have not been, and 7 will be decided TODAY!! So, it's on...and we've settled on the voting procedure that will govern Rounds 2+3, in a heated discussion that was a test all in it's self. We saw who was willing to speak up and butt heads with me, and how that can get things done. So that's all in the forum. Check it out. I'll be putting the finishing touches on the GEM CITY COMICON release of the 2008 Round 1 entries that made it through to Round 2. It will be a special promo at the show! If you are going to be in the Dayton Ohio area April 6th...plan to be there! It will be the ONLY release of that version of the Idol Round 1 entries! If there is a call for it after that, I may do another special printing of it for collectors. So, speak up! DIMESTORE DISTRO SITE (www.dimestoredistro.com) All things considered, the Distro is anxiously awaiting my turning attention to it, and it looks like this will be the week I can do that. My main goals are going to be to get the front page presentation of new books settled - and start loading the backlog of info. It's not brain surgery, so I should be able to get moving, and anyone out there with things waiting to get into the Distro will be hearing from me the minute your stuff is up. We'll also be making the final adjustments to the submissions guidelines information so that they will work with our pending deal with Cold Cut/Haven Distribution. Orders that have been placed will start going out as well. We've been busy catching up on the books that needed printing, but we're into a solid groove with that now, so we're confident things are going to run fairly smooth now. SPA COMICS SITE (www.spacomics.com) I've been dead in the water getting this site really ready and rolling. It's got it's forum started, but we haven't moved over the MVA forums, or started the individual studio forums, or gotten any real content up yet. The center of the SPA Comics Imprint is in solid need of someone to help me get the ideas and things in place to make it work. So let's call that a Call out for such help... INDYFEST USA SITE (www.indyfestusa.com) We continue to hear rumblings that people are planning to come and get tables, but so far, the majority of tables remain up for grabs. I still need to get in there and update the guest list and put some hotel and restaurant info on the MAP. Folks, if we want to build a real, progressive, well attended show in Cleveland, we need to get these tables gobbled up so we can see how much $$ we have to spend on promoting the show. |
