| Bulletin: | SPA Kickstart Newsletter #229 May 11th, 2009 I'm going to make a big change in the way we're doing the Kick Starts, starting TODAY. Going to go back to the basics...and just have it be the latest new stuff to look at, and let the rest of the stuff that was built up and attached to the kick starts, simply fall into place in the sections they belong to in the grand thing we call the SPA. So, the Kick Start will no longer be a thing posted on the homepage, this, what you are reading is the Kick Start. We will keep the Kick Start section archive going, but we're stripping out the ADS and images, and junk, and just having a weekly "this is what we're working on newsletter", instead of trying to have a newsletter to announce the newsletter's posting...so here we go... You will notice that the ADS that were in the Kick Start are now in a new front page set up, which puts the FORUM at center stage. The Dimestore main site has been re-dedicated to the community, and the sections and split off-sites, will be just that...things that surround the community. I think this will make those ads even more high-profile, and, in doing so, we're going to limit the number of them to two a week...and see how it goes. I think that as the old Kick Start format got heavier, fewer people actually visited the homepage, and it just became a case of trying to do too much in one place. Check the new look out at: http://www.dimestoreproductions.com So as we're spreading the love, we've got a HUGE announcement this week: We have a new Managing Editor for Self Publisher! Magazine. He will be in charge of getting together whatever it takes to make the Self Publisher! website the news/articles Mecca it is supposed to be, and otherwise, get the print magazine back into production, and doing what it is supposed to be doing for the community. This gentleman has a degree in journalism, and experience working on magazines as a writer and an editor. We think his newer perspective on the magazine will revitalize the concept and execution of what I started way back in 1991...join me in welcoming Michael Niziolek to the Dimestore staff. We will be looking at a July/round 4 period re-launch of the magazine. Yes, this does mean that the Sneak Peek series will be put back on the shelf/possibly assimilated in part by SP! again. But we do plan to have the SP! issues available in that enhanced PDF form that we did in #2, and otherwise find ways to make it the most-read indy magazine ever. If you aren't already, you should be submitting your news at: http://www.selfpubmag.com Lots of new stuff at the Distro site, both new print publications and new downloadables. The distro site is really starting to roll, as our Gold membership layer is starting to take hold, and people start to get that we can list books from any publisher, no matter what printer they use, and whether they are putting copies into physical stock with us or not. We are the most flexible distro out there, with the highest payout to the publisher possible. If you haven't seen what's new there yet, check out http://www.dimestoredistro.com Well, other than all that, I'm hard at work getting Idol Round 3 prepped, and otherwise keeping all the plates here spinning, and building the team of us here to a place we can really rock out loud. Glad to have you reading the NEW Kick Start newsletter. Let us know what you think! Ian Shires/ P.O. Box 214 Madison, OH 44057 |
