Erik- Thank You for Fantastic Comics/Next Issue Project!!!
The Golden Age size, the wild concepts, the off-register colors, the old ads! My pick of the week, heck, the month!
Your love of the pure comic form shines brightly here! Great to see Allred, Sienkiewicz and other talents here! |

Dwayne,
Loving your work on FF, cannot wait until you get your hands on JLofA! You've been one of my favorite writers and it's good to see you get some high-profile gigs!

Jeff!
LOVED the first issue of Spidey/FF that came out today! You are emerging as one of the strongest writers in Marvel's arsenal!
I have the Agents of Atlas hardcover on order, too.
You've come a long way since the Malibu days, amigo! Keep it up! DrewG 1 Reply [ Latest posted on April 12th, 2007 12:36 AM ]

Great work on the 45th Ann. FF issue! I picked it up solely for the fact that you'd be writing it, but enjoyed the art as well!
Since last year's FF special, I'd been hoping you'd get a crack at the FF, as you "get" the characters better than most.
You and Pelletier should really rock and I'll be there reading away...

Marvelgirl,
If you can find time in the busy trade schedule, PleasePleasePlease see if the Powers That Be can produce a Daredevil Essentials Vol. 4! It's been over a year-and-a-half since Vol. 3 and the stories have only gone up to #70 or so.
Keep up the good work on the trades! I'm waaaaay behind on my reading.

Good to know y'all, too! Thanks for checkin' out the website. Yeah, it was a trip inking Perez, considering I used to attempt to draw like him when I was ten years old!
Thanks also for checkin' out the blog, and the props on inking! Since I first noticed Giordano, Giacoia, Janson, etc., I've always genuinely loved ink as a medium. Those new Showcases and Essentials are great reference for glorious inks! 1 Reply [ Latest posted on January 25th, 2007 1:09 AM ]

I'm with ya there, Drew. The black and white books are wonderful to sift through.
I'm just bummed when they get to later material (as they have with Wolverine) ...ugh.
Bad, bad grayscale. |

Josh,
Thanks for making this all possible. Even though I've been in the biz for a while, I've met other pros (and up-and-coming pros)here for the first time!
Hope the weather's okay up there! Drew |

Thanks! - how in the world did you find this place? I thought I was internet savvy, but I guess I'm a bit off.
Things are getting crazy cold after the balmy spring like Christmas... global warming at it's best!
How're things with you? Working hard?

Superhais,
Thanks! I've been blessed with a steady hand and an eye for detail that took me years to develop through experimentation. Sometimes I use my left hand to steady my right (inking) hand when I freehand small circles. Thanks for the love! Good to know you, amigo! |

The Judge Dredd image I pencilled AND inked, believe it or not! I surprised myself... |

I inked six pages, 15-20, with background assistance by fellow inker Dave Meikis (JSA, Negation). So that makes four inkers. Why? The deadline was HOT!HOT!HOT! and had to be done "yesterday".
Those pages were pencilled by up-and-comer Sunny Lee, with whom I did the entirety of #4, to fill-in for Travel Foreman. It was a lot of fun, and I hope to revisit those characters again. |

The Sojourn stuff was a lot of detail, detail, detail, but the results were worth the endless hours...
As for the Spidey/Torch mini, I came in late when the schedule was getting tight, but I wish I had been in on it since #1. What's funny is that I was already purchasing and enjoying the series, then I got a call to pitch in on #4 & 5. |

Joe,
Just caught up on my 52 reading (I like to wait a month and read several at a time) and I saw your recent Christmas issue - Sweet work!
Since the credits page was on page four, I was looking at the issue, thinking: "Wow, who's THIS guy? He's good!". When your name appeared on the scroll I thought: "Way to go, Joe!!"
Much Love, Amigo! 1 Reply [ Latest posted on January 7th, 2007 11:54 AM ]

Ahahahah! Yeah! That was me, man -- I did half issue, and Tom Derenick did the rest.
Thanks for the kind words, Drew. I had a blast drawing these because I had the chance to draw some of my favorite characters like Nightwing and Lex Luthor. =)
You can check some of the pencils of that issue on my virtual portfolio.
Take care, buddy! |

A Happy belated New Year to everybody!
So far I've written three checks, and I wrote '07 on each one - 3 for 3 so far!
Anyway, thanks for coming aboard, new pals! your appreciation of my inks warms this cynic's heart! Thanks!
btw, I have three new inking commissions on the Fanfare site listed on my bio. Two pencilled by Adam Hughes (Donna Troy & WW), one pencilled by Bruce Timm (Batgirl). Check 'em out, as I'm quite proud of the graytones I added.
Now I gotta go out for a haircut... |

Matthew,
Thanks for the add - I first saw your detail-crazy work on Wonder Woman when my then-studiomate Ray Snyder was inking you on #150 or so-all those Grecian collumns in the backgrounds! My eyeballs were bleeding!
I didn't know about your health problems, but I hope your New Year is a happy and healthy one!
In your photo: Are you singing into a microphone or is that just a weird tangent from the background? 1 Reply [ Latest posted on January 3rd, 2007 11:16 PM ]

Erik,
Thanks much for the add! btw, for pure comics enjoyment, I constantly check out your three issues of Thor (#26-28)in my spinner rack - you and Klaus Janson were perfect for the God of Thunder! Wish you two did more-maybe a miniseries to fill the void while we're waiting for the new monthly?

I liked filling in--and I like Thor--but doing work at Marvel while I'm the Publisher at Image would be bad form, I think.
That, and I'd rather do my own stuff. |

Dwayne,
Really liked Beyond! The final chapter was a great payoff! I'm anxiously awaiting your work on both FF and Firestorm! The FF special you wrote last year showed that you "get" the FF and what makes them unique! Thanks also for the add! |

Al, thanks for the add! You've always been an inspriration to guys like me! We've met, like, ten years ago in San Diego, when I was just starting, and I was too nervous to talk shop, as I barely knew what I was doing at the time! 1 Reply [ Latest posted on December 28th, 2006 6:25 PM ]

Trish!
My Nightwing buddy! Loved what you did on the stuff Land & I did back in the day!
I remember meeting you at a con once around that time, and you had concerns about transitioning from color guides to computers, as the comics were just starting to convert to computer-only colors.
Well, you did it, and I applaud your accomplishments! A lot of talent fell off the map with the computer age of comics, but you perservered! You knew color theory before you knew the software, which has not always been the case with other colorists (no names mentioned)!
Needless to say, thanks for the add:) |
