Hey Andrew, Thanks for dropping in and taking a tour. You have a strong design sense that is quite cool. Great work. And alot of it! Good for you. Much success and keep it up. |

UM in the Coil is a brilliant, facinating piece of work, that I always enjoy re-reading. Thanks for putting 'em all up here to see. 1 Reply [ Latest posted on February 12th, 2007 10:30 AM ]

thanks man :)...sadly, when I was around the 100 page mark on that, I backed up all of the high rez versions as well as the various work files onto a disc, thinking i was safe...then about a week later my system got fried...after re-installing windows, i needed those work files again, and found out that everything on those back-up discs were currupted...so left with only the 72 dpi pages, i can never really print the thing...really knocked the wind out of my sails, but i kept at it for a long while anyhoo...heh |

Albuquerque...heh...nice man :) I imagine it can get downright gorgeous out there...cheeres to that :) yeah, I've been tinkering on a graphic novel for the last two years...do'n it all hermit-style...heh...locked away in my tower, ring'n the bells above Notre Dame...:)
here's a peek at it I really need to get into a good groove these next couple of months and get a good clip of pages done...kind'a got derailed by various adventures and shinanagins lately...heh |

andy, your graphic novel looks awesome, how much more do you have to do to finish it? do you have a publisher or are you going to wait till you get it finished to try and solicit one? tell jim i said "hey back"! |

hey thanks! I've set a page-count of 120..although there's plenty of material to go on for quite a lot more...got a lot of hours collectively ivested in getting to know these characters by now - kind of an odd extended family..heh yeah, I'm wait'n until it's done ( or nearly done ) before i try showing it to any publishers...of course, i realize that spring'n a graphic-novel onto a publisher without having a prior relationship with 'said publisher' is nothing short of a gamble...heh i don't know...i'm curious to see what happens :) |

ang, don't limit yourself to comic book publishers. a lot of book publishers are starting to publish original graphic novels now. your story seems artsy enough that they might consider it, but mainstream enough that you might actually sell a few. good luck! |

If you ever need anything from lil' ol' me just holla, I'm not too far from the Indiana border, so hopefully one day soon we can all meet up, chit chat and shoot bibi's at oncoming traffic down by the highway! yay! 2 Replies [ Latest posted on January 4th, 2007 11:27 PM ]

I hope so too. I'm currently scheduled for NY Comic-Con, MoCCA, and (assuming I get my table) San Diego. Usually, I go to Wizard World Chicago as well, but that one, SPACE, SPX, SNAP and Stumptown are up in the air and doubtful right now. |

Sorry for butting in this conversation, but you've seen his work before Stan. I was fortunate enough to have him draw a guest striponce for Navel Gazer.
Nice to see you Andrew and thanks for the add! |

Ah, yes, I remember that one. I should've remembered the style, but Lonnie, you're giving me WAY too much credit for having the ability to remember names ;) |

:)...honestly, I think once I switched to Digital, the one major aspect of working in Photoshop ( among a good deal of others ) that sticks out as throwing such a curious new element into the mix of available 'tools' - is unlimited "layers"...so much can done and focused on, on seperate layers - be that to simply color and maintain varying areas of depth and effects to spesific layers...to being able at one time decide to ink something so marginal as an eyeball on a seperate layer, only to be able to nudge it in one direction or the other so that it seems to alter the appearance of the entire face...and a thousand other subtle influences provided by squeezing every possible 'possiblity' out of the process of layering the contents of a page........that, and i tend to do the work in a seperate ( much larger ) work file ( from the actual page ) so that i can do all manner of experimentation without having to worry about messing up the actual page before testing out new panels and new panel elements - often simple things, such as testing if whether or not a particular background compliments the characters in the foreground - whether it simply needs to be flipped horizontally or some subtle contrast or color value needs tweeked ( and on and on - again, much to do with the advent of layers ) I've got a couple of tutorials i've made ( i've made several, but some got lost when my server went down a couple of years ago )
here and here which follows here also, some 3D aided experimental work... here of which I'm still not found a comfort zone with, but it's all a part of a long learning curve.
anyhoo...sweet to hear from you bro...I'm work'n on page 81 still...it's proven to be a real pain in the ass...heh |
