Ectozone
Background:
No professional comic experience; I did write a smattering of letters in the early to mid 90's that appeared in various places, mostly the Disney and Gladstone titles, with a few in other favorites such as the Legion titles, Superman (I even won a Baldy), and X-Factor. The very first one was in the 22nd issue of Now Comics' Real Ghostbusters series. Heh. Letter columns. Remember letter columns? Professional: I worked in retail for eight years before being disabled--I lost part of my left leg to an infection exacerbated by then-undiagnosed diabetes. Nerd Cred: I've dabbled in role playing games and fan comics and fiction pretty much my whole life, though only in the last four years have any appeared online. At present, the bulk of my fan work has been Ghostbusters oriented, and can be found at my web site: The Ectozone And my Deviantart site; GB dominated, but with a smattering of other stuff: http://ectozone.deviantart.com I was really drawn into Ghostbusters not by the movies (the first one was awesome, though) but by the early episodes of the Real Ghostbusters cartoon, especially those written by J. Micheal Straczynski. The property is a perfect blend of horror, sci-fi, comedy, and even a dash of wierd romance. I've written a comprehensive Ghostbusters Timeline that forms the basis of my fan fic continuity (and has even been excerpted by tv.com) Other Fandoms: Legion of Super Heroes. I post occassionally as Koymc Dox on the DC and Legionworld message boards; I started into the fandom in early 1994, due to Legionnaires, and stayed with the book through two reboots. Honestly, I think I liked the Post-Zero Hour version better than the current Waid/Kitson version, though I still follow it. Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge. Big fan of Carl Barks and Don Rosa; Rosa was a big influence in some of my Ghostbusters work, not so much directly as his idea of taking a bunch of lore that wasn't really meant to work together and welding together a mythos out of it. I like dashes of violence and sex as much as anyone, but it's kind of inspiring how they both produce such awesome work under some of the most content-restrictive editorial rules in the business. Anime. A few big favorites: the various Gundam shows, Robotech (Yeah, I'm that old, remember?); many of the shows Cartoon Network runs and I can watch free; and my guilty pleasure, Digimon. |
