Yes, that's me (above) with my good friend, Batman! Any resemblance to Santa Claus is an unfortunate accident. More about me and my fabulous life in comics below, but first, here's the links.. First, my web site covering my career in comics. There are links to art, sketches and more stuff than you can shake a stick at (and that's a lot!): Ed Hannigan's Comics Then there's my website containing artwork I have for sale, including cover re-creations, sketches and commissions: Spider & BatAnd you'll find a sample of pages from my Graphic Novel, Skull & Bones , which was published in 1991 by DC Comics at: Skull & Bones. I started in comics in 1971, working for the late Sol Brodsky (a wonderful guy, by the way) on the Marvel British weekly reprints, doing lettering corrections and zip-a-tones. I met many great people at Marvel, some of whom are dear friends to this day. From the British books I progressed to penciling, drawing such books as The Spectacular Spider-Man, but mostly I drew covers and did cover roughs for other artists under the direction of John Romita Sr. I also did a little writing and lots of work for the Merchandising/Licensing folks. Around 1981 I started doing cover sketches for Dick Giordano at DC and after a while I became DC's cover editor. At DC I drew several books, mostly Annuals and inventory stories, but also the Green Arrow series written by Mike Grell. But mainly I continued my career of designing and drawing covers and working for the merchandising and licensing people. During this period I designed more covers than any other artist, and I may still hold that record (except for Jack Kirby in the Sixties). I also penciled the first five Legends of the Dark Knight, which was tremendously successful. After that I had the time to write and draw my graphic novel, Skull & Bones, published by DC, which unfortunately did not sell that well. I also wrote and drew an Elseworlds series, League of Justice and a couple of other things and continued doing cover sketches and merchandising assignments. Sadly comics in the late Nineties was falling apart and when my DC contract was up I could no longer find much work. I did a few other things in the comics industry, but eventually looked elsewhere and got a job working for a publisher of informational booklets and folders in Massachusetts. I ended up with another group of great people and learned computer graphics programs like Photoshop, Freehand and QuarkXPress. It was a whole second career which I loved! After a while I started having strange symptoms of numbness in my fingers and legs and was eventually diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. At first it was only an annoyance but it got worse and worse. I worked there for nine years, but unfortunately they had a huge layoff and I lost my job. However, it worked out okay, because by that time my MS symptoms had gotten so bad that I was planning on quitting anyway. At least they had a good severance package. I qualified for Disability soon afterward. Now I do drawings and sketches that I sell on my web page (visit!). I live in New Hampshire with my wife and two kids and a beagle.

Thanks for the add! I'm loving your website also! A bit of info on the cover of Batman 381, that is Nightslayer in the other Bat-suit. One of my favorite Batman covers so it was easy.

Thank you very much. You are my second ComicSpace friend from Brazil! Are the comics there in English or Portuguese? |
 |
[ Posted by Klebs on Jan 22nd, 2007 8:29 PM ]...
Hey Ed. All the books here are published in Portuguese. But there are several comic shops where we can find the US version. Thatīs where I got al your GA run last century, heheh. Do you have any GA originals? best klebs |
 |
[ Posted by EdHannigan on Jan 23rd, 2007 8:23 AM ]...
I have a few GA original pages but I generally don't sell original art. I sold off moat of my best stuff a few years ago when I really needed the money and want to hold on to what I have left to pass on to my kids.
Are you interested in anything in particular? I do have a Green Arrow cover re-creation (GA #5) on my web site and a couple of sketches. |

Mr. Hannigan,
It is a pleasure to 'meet you' out here in cyberspace. I've been a long time fan of your work... especially with the first 20 issues of the monthly GREEN ARROW that you illustrated.
I just wanted to say hello and thank you.

Good to see you here! It says in your bio you have a beagle. We have a 2 year old named Zoey that we love to death, even when she's a brat. 1 Reply [ Latest posted on January 9th, 2007 6:38 PM ]
