Header: MediaConnection and the Comicbook Artists Guild Celebrate Independent Artists
Bulletin: MediaConnection has teamed up with the Comicbook Artists Guild for two events celebrating the guild and its commitment to independent artists. The celebration starts at the New York Comic Con where MediaConnection will be presenting three raffles at the Comicbook Artists Guild booth.

“Attendees who sign up to receive information about the Comicbook Artists Guild or MediaConnection will be entered in our raffles,” said Eric Lopkin, publisher of MediaConnection. “We’ve put together a great assortment of toys, comics, and collectibles to publicize the work of the guild and our coverage of independent comics. Each day of the show we’ll be raffling off these items.”

Each winner will receive a box of goodies which includes action figures, comics, sticker books, and collectibles. “We’ll be happy to ship the prizes to the winners, so they don’t have to carry it all,” added Lopkin.

In addition to the the three raffles, MediaConnection joins the guild as a sponsor for its Indie After Party. For the past three years, the Comicbook Artists Guild contributed to the celebration surrounding the New York Comic Con by co-sponsoring the Indy After Party along with several independent minded publishers, apparel companies, media ventures, and now a museum. This year is no exception. CAG invites attendees and exhibitors to Blaggard’s Pub for an evening of networking, door prizes and entertainment. This year’s celebration will take place on Saturday, February 7, 2009 from 8pm to midnight.

With the success and popularity of this celebration increasing year over year, the leadership team of the Comicbook Artists Guild is excited to be moving the party to a bigger and more robust venue, as well as a full service restaurant. Last year’s party drew in a crowd of over 240 attendees. The need to move to a larger location was imminent. In addition to the introduction of a new venue, the Indy After Party is honored and excited to welcome the lead singer of the popular band Toolfist for a live performance. Attendees of the party will also be eligible to win exciting door prizes, while meeting new friends and mingling with old.

In addition to CAG and MediaConnection, co-sponsors for this year’s Indy After Party include:
• Hell’s Blood!!! Hector Rodriguez: www.hellsblood.net

MediaConnection covers pop culture with a focus on movies, television, comic books, books, toys and games. The mission of MediaConnection is to spotlight quality material and bring independent work to the attention of our readers. Launched in 1990 as a newsletter distributed through online bulletin board systems, Compuserve, GEnie, and America Online, MediaConnection grew to include a print magazine in 1995 and The MediaConnection Pop Culture Expo in 1998.

The Comicbook Artists Guild, L.L.C., founded in 2000, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the networking, education and support of comic book creators, writers and artists alike, regardless of amateur or professional status, skill levels or talent divisions. Currently, CAG operates membership chapters out of New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Nebraska and a chapter abroad in Brazil, with interest in opening more chapters and continuing to grow. CAG’s goal is to advance the medium of comics through the creative experiences of its members. By bringing them together on projects of their choosing, the Guild perpetuates the positive aspects of the comics industry and its continuing contribution to popular culture.
