MediaConnection Wrap Up - Week ending April 25, 2009

Columbus Short joins forces with 'Losers'

Columbus Short has been recruited for the betrayed Special Forces team of "The Losers," based on the DC Comics series.

Short joins Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Idris Elba and Zoe Saldana in the action film about a rogue black ops team on the hunt for revenge.

Random House readies Da Vinci Code follow-up

Dan Brown’s long-awaited follow up novel, The Lost Symbol, will arrive in bookstores Sept. 15, the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group announced Monday. The book features Brown’s well known hero Robert Langdon, and will have a first printing of five million copies—a record for parent company Random House.

Kate Mara, Clark Gregg join Iron Man 2

Kate Mara and Clark Gregg have joined Marvel's "Iron Man 2," being directed by Jon Favreau and currently shooting in Manhattan Beach, Calif. Mara's role is being kept under wraps. Gregg is returning as Agent Phil Coulson of S.H.I.E.L.D.

'Sin City' sequel up for grabs

The sequel rights to "Sin City," Frank Miller's popular noir comic, are being shopped around Hollywood, in what appears to be a sign that Dimension Films has lost rights to the property.

The Weinstein Co./Dimension continue to maintain that they hold the rights to any sequel for the Robert Rodriguez film, which grossed $159 million worldwide when it came out in 2005. But producers say they have been shopped the rights by reps for Miller's estate, who they say are seeking a new place to set up a potential follow-up.

Less Heroes Next Season

In an attempt to revive the failing series, NBC is expected to trim the number of episodes of its sci-fi drama it airs next season, according to people familiar with the situation, and also run those episodes closer together to avoid interruptions to the story line week by week. The network is considering running 18 to 20 episodes of the series in the 2008-2009 season, those people said, down from 25 this season.
