MediaConnection Wrap Up - Week ending May 15, 2009

ABC picks up Flash Forward

ABC has officially picked up the drama "Flash Forward." The show, which already is being promoted on the network, received a 13-episode order.

Based on Robert J. Sawyer's novel, the Joseph Fiennes-starring series chronicles the aftermath of a global event in which everyone in the world blacks out for 2 minutes, 17 seconds and has mysterious visions of six months into the future.

Lost Episodes of ‘Dollhouse’ Find a Home

The DVD release of “Dollhouse,” scheduled for July 28, will include both of these lost episodes in addition to the 12 originally broadcast installments of the show. Eliza Dushku, who plays the mysterious agent Echo, and Mr. Whedon, who created and produced the series, will also provide commentary for some episodes.

FX Picks up 'Star Trek' TV Rights

FX has bought the television rights to "Star Trek," Daily Variety reports. With the standard four-year movie licensing deal, FX may pay Paramount as much as $24 million for the film if it grosses $200 million domestically, the trade paper says. The movie will appear on FX in about 30 months, the publication adds.

Fox Takes Aim At Human Target

Fox has given early series orders to the comicbook drama "Human Target". The show from Warner Bros. TV, Wonderland and DC Comics, revolves around a man who assumes the identity of people in danger. Jon Steinberg wrote the pilot and will exec produce with Brad Kern, Peter Johnson and McG. Mark Valley, Chi McBride and Jackie Earle Haley star.

Grayskull lands new writer

Warner Bros. and Silver Pictures have tapped newcomer Evan Daugherty to pen the latest draft of "Grayskull," the studio's big-screen take on Mattel's "Masters of the Universe" cartoon and toy line. John Stevenson ("Kung Fu Panda") is attached to direct the adaptation of the show.

Watchmen expands interactivity on Blu-ray

Warner Home Video has set Watchmen for a July 21 DVD/Blu-ray Disc release and will introduce a number of new features exclusive to its high-definition version. The Watchmen Blu-ray release, priced at $35.99, will mark the studio’s debut of ‘Maximum Movie Mode,’ in which director Zack Snyder will appear as the film is rolling to explain various ins and outs of the creation process. Also exclusive to the Blu-ray edition is a new Web-enabled feature expanding the community screening experience to user’s Facebook friend network.
