Ficture Productions is pleased to present these preview pages of the "Earth's Mightiest Mortals" introductory arc, called "New Realities". The first issue is "Crime of the Sentry". "Earth's Mightiest Mortals" (EMM) refers to the large cast of heroes and villains, both super and otherwise, allowing the character focus to change during each new story line.
Lance Nicholas is the Public Defender, a rogue hero who has quit the World's Champions, a team he served with for years. He accused them of taking too much direction from governments and corporations, and suspects the influence of the mysterious conspiracy known as the Eminent Dominion. The Public Defender has remained in his home city of Monopolis, often called the capital of capitalism. He's officially considered a criminal by the MonoPolice, and is vilified in the media by the Monopolis Monolog newspaper, and on the local Monovision network news. Yet he continues to prowl the streets, the people's platinum-clad protector, marking certain buildings in each neighborhood and sector of the city with his shield's distinctive emblem to warn off potential predators. Now the Public Defender is compelled to seek out his former comrades after their most celebrated hero, the American Sentry, is implicated in the deaths of US troops in a foreign desert. This brings him into conflict with the current World's Champions, the covert and deeply-rooted Eminent Dominion, and a slew of hired super villains, all intent on silencing him once and for all. To counter the forces against him and to what he perceives as a secret world order redefining democracy, he begins to recruit a new team of his own. No one knows for sure if the Public Defender really possesses any enhanced abilities, only that he always seems to come out on top. Some say he must, or he would have been captured or killed long ago. Unknown to almost all, his one true power is invincibility, which he was given as an infant in an accident almost costing him his life. The Public Defender can still be maimed or killed, as being invincible doesn't stop bullets of repel knives. The better he trains his mind and body, the easier are his victories. His armor and shield aren't just for show. He puts himself in real danger, and risks everything to uphold the rights and liberties of others. First among his allies is the long-retired black-garbed hero once known by the Hispanic immigrants of Monopolis as "el Negro del Noche", Javier Vasquez. Javier lives with the Public Defender in the Defender's family estate, Hauberk Hall. Javier's granddaughter, Emma, had been the Public Defender's young assistant, la Caballera. Emma is the first of PD's recruits, soon followed by Ultra Violet, Bouncer, Rapida, and other ex-members of the World's Champions, Professor Phantom and Super Charge... |
