Hello Friends-

I'm Dan, the author and illustrator of For the Hermits.

For the Hermits is a weekly webcomic that combines quick slices of prose with illustrations in varying styles. Call it what you will.

I've released a mini comic called "The Man on the Moon," starring the common man: promotional site.

I also submit stories to literary journals:

--God, What an Asshole

--A Beer With Herman Melville

I'm sorry that this should be so...but such is life.
Thank you for the compliments. And I've recovered from your comic, so all is forgiven. It's going to be even harder to pick those bits of skin that peel up around my fingernails though.

Your "strips" (what do you call them?) are really something else. I like what you did with the site, too.

Thank you. What to call For the Hermits has been a bit of a problem. I think a new genre name may be in order. I was thinking of "Pic Lit".

The new site is easier to maintain and you can see the pictures without having to scroll as much now.

hi again. the new site design looks great. i wish you were using project wonderful instead of google ad words though so i could bid on a spot. btw, thanks so much for the link. i fixed yours on my site it was still going to the /index.php. :/

#51 is absolutely lovely. you are wonderful with watercolors as well as words. i can only guess you have led an interesting life and immerse yourself in it's little moments, absorbing and observing.

all the best,
calan

Project wonderful slots are forthcoming. I'm waiting on an invite. They've quite the waiting list now, it seems.

ugh i have to try to follow mr. eloquence's comment beneath me. :P

I just wanted to pop by and tell you i loved #44. the pencil art in the first panel is lovely. do you work on paper and scan in or is that done digital? i'm guessing you scan and whatever process you do to prep them is perfect because the images are always so strong.

p.s. Giant really did suck. I only sat through it because I like James Dean, but he wasn't enough to redeem it's crap factor.

Thanks again for you comments. For the Hermits is always hand-drawn on middle-weight paper. I scan into photoshop then I use "autolevels", adjust "brightness" to 10%-20% to remove the paper grain from what should be white, and then increase contrast until it looks like it should. Occasionally I do coloring in Photoshop.

Your art is nostalgic of ages of elaborate costumes, curtains, and theatrical masks - yet your stories are realistically universal of our time when entertainment leaves us numb, and the only masks we wear are smiles.

very nice stuff indeed! You must agonise of the wording something chronic... keep 'em coming... :)

Dan, thanks for the add! "For the Hermits" makes me want to kill myself--but in a 'good killing myself' kind of way. Keep up the good work.

I like it, even relate to some of them.
Love the unique format that you place your strips in.

Adding me ignites a kickass drum solo at a concert somewhere. Thank you.
