I don't work in animation, I'm really just a beginner trying to learn the basics so far About the tones you can see in my pics, they are textures indeed. you can have them by setting the proper pattern picture in Photoshop or Gimp but there are also programs like mangastudio or opencanvas that have specific tools to achieve it ;)

If it's your childhood dream you shouldn't wait anymore to get started then, go for it, now ;) Easytoon is a very cool soft and it's a also a freeware. You should also get the Preston Blair book on animation to get some basics

Wow thank you! That's a huge compliment!! I've been gradually working my way toward a more sketched and washy color style like Bilal's work. I love a lot of french comic artists because they ooze style and are completely unfettered by the sort of 'draw just like this other artist' rut in most American comics
