| Bulletin: | Well, unfortunately, the votes came in for me today and I didn't make it to round two. That sucks but what can you do, right? I felt like my art was decent...but my biggest down fall, I think, was that my pitch didn't accurately convey my story. I really wanted to enter something that was different. No Ninjas, zomibes or super-powers...as well as no weird anime/love story/dragon ball-z-esque stories. I noticed that there were a lot of those. But I suppose mine was just not exciting enough. As far as my art work goes...it was interesting to get some honest feedback on my work. As an "artist" I always have friends and family tell me how "good" I can draw even though I know in my heart that my work is actually pretty childish. Now I know for sure that my suspicions are true. Their comments were that my art is "weak" and that it "defiantly needs work". One judge also said that my character "looked like he was falling down"...which I did on purpose. He was supposed to look unstable and unsure of himself while being surprised at what was going on around him. Well anyway...I suppose I agree with all their criticism. It's a little disappointing to hear...but it's ok. If I ever realistically expect to "make it" in comics I'm going to have to have pretty tough skin. I'll just look on this as a learning experience! If I try again next year I may try a few different things…but that’s a long ways away. Until then I’ll just wish the contestants who did make it good luck and keep working on my own art and try to improve my skills. Things I learned from this submission: Excitement good. Ninjas & Zombies good Not having a Super-Powered story bad. Comedy Bad. Not being a very good artist Bad. You can see my entry in a Gallery I set up on my comicspace.
