About Me
Hi. I'm Gene Marsh. I'm a printmaker working on my MFA. I read comics. I listen to heavy metal. I will someday have a webcomic for your enjoyment. I like beer. I write very bland, unimaginative, formulaic sentences.

Non-Comics Interests
NFL Football, The Steelers, rock and/or roll music, movies (horror, western, comedy, explosions, boobs, all of the above), printmaking, making messes, worshipping Jack Bauer, video games, not following through with my plans, managing content, drinking beer, complete and total barf-o-ramas, ripping songs to my iPod, cooking and eating eggs

Reviews for Dec. 28 *SPOILERS*

What If? featuring X-Men: Deadly Genesis
During a TV interview, we learn that Vulcan is the world's greatest hero. After finding Cyclops on Krakoa he was separated from his team and he found the original X-Men. He was unable to free them before they were killed, but the X-Men 1.5 squad escaped and shot the island into space. After the interview Vulcan goes to X-Men's HQ to see how a recent mission in space with the Silver Surfer went. SS found Krakoa and pulled it into orbit around Earth where Sway used her time powers to see what really happened when Vulcan found the lost X-Men. Turns out he accidentally killed Marvel Girl and Havok, and then murdered the others to cover it up. When his teammates confront him in the present day, he tries to kill them, too, but Sway freezes him. Turns out Vulcan is a douche no matter what reality he's in. It's decided that he will be imprisoned on a dome on Krakoa by himself, surrouned by trophies of his heroics and forced to watch a time loop of his actions.

All in all, I thought this was a pretty good comic. It stuck to the "What If?" premise, making it feel a lot like one of the What If? comics from when it was an ongoing. The story was good, with plenty of little twists to show how different things would have been if the 1.5 team survived. The art was top-notch as well, especially the two page spread of all of the various X-Teams that were formed in this reality.

*Note: I have no idea how to professionally review something, and I was plastered when I wrote this.

Daredevil #92
So after chasing the mystery-man behind Foggy's "murder" all over creation, it turns out it's been a mysterywoman all this time. After beating the crap out of a bunch of guards, DD finds who he's looking for: Vanessa Fisk. She's been playing Matt all this time, getting revenge for the cycle of violence that took her husband and son away from her. She offers Matt a way out, though. She'll wipe away his problems in exchange for Matt working towards getting the Kingpin released from prison. Matt tells her to shove it, wondering how she could keep her end of the bargain. It turns out she had the former FBI Director that arrested Matt killed and framed for setting up Matt Murdock.

This is another kickass issue by Brubaker and Lark. Vanessa Fisk's involvement, as well as the deal she offers Matt were big surprises. The art was at it's usual level of quality that this book has maintained since it was relaunched under Marvel Knights. Buy Daredevil or else you're a chump.

December 31- Favorites of 2006!
It's that time of the year again when everyone is looking back and letting everyone else know what they think the best comics related stuff of 2006 was. Since I'll pretty much do anything anyone else is doing so I can look cool, here are my Favorites of 2006!

Favorite Writer- Ed Brubaker
Daredevil, Captain America, Criminal. The list goes on. Everything this guy touches turns to gold. His stories are action packed, character driven and always end with the reader salivating with anticipation over the next issue. You never know what to expect in a book written by Ed Brubaker, and that's why he's by Best Writer of 2006.

Favorite Artist- Patrick Zircher
Zircher's clear storytelling, crisp linework and dynamic figures made issues 7-12 of Iron Man interesting despite the goofball story. Every month, Zircher comes through with good-looking traditional superhero art that explodes from the page, no matter what he's drawing. His books also come out on time, too. That counts for a lot these days. Hopefully 2007 will see Patrick Zircher on even bigger and better projects than he got in 2006.

Favorite Series (Ongoing)- Daredevil
There's something refreshing about a series that has a new writer come on board and pick up right where the last guy left off. Way too many books have a new creative team take over and totally overhaul the series, taking away any kind of long term sense of narrative. Daredevil transitioned seemlessly from Bendis to Brubaker, upholding the standard of quality that this series sets for all other superhero books on the shelves today.

Favorite Series (Limited)- X-Men First Class
Every issue of this series is a pleasure. Fun, lighthearted, done-in-one stories starring one of the best lineups in the history of the X-Men franchise make First Class one of the coolest books Marvel is putting out right now. After years of doom and gloom from the X-Men, this book is a breath of fresh air. First Class II can't come soon enough.

Favorite Publisher- Marvel Comics
DC managed to kill most of the characters that I like to read about, so Marvel wins.

Jan. 2- Fashionista

Supergirl looks stupid in a blue skirt.

She looks like she should eat something, too.

Superhero anorexia is not hot.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Jan.3- Fashonista Pt. 2

The Iron-Spider suit kicked ass, but the Black Costume is even better.

Sales gimmicks have never looked cooler.

Jan. 4- East Coast, Bitches

Getting my comics today. It sucks to be all you West Coast people. You're in our prayers.

Reviews for Jan.4 *SPOILERS*

All Star Superman #6
Definitely one of my favorite series out right now, but this issue fell a little flat for me. It's not that there was anything wrong with the issue, but one of the big draws for me is Morrison's handling of the Metropolis supporting cast. I missed seeing them in this issue. I also felt like the overall plot of Morrison's 12 issues advanced that much in this book. We got to see another of the "Superfeats" accomplished, but I would've liked to have seen Superman's impending death and his relationship with Lois touched on a little more.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Jan. 5- God Save the Queen

I made a 200+ mile round trip today just to pick up a paycheck. It pretty much sucked ass, but I finally scored a copy of Union Jack #4 while I was at it. In the words of our Commander in Chief: "Mission Accomplished!"

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Jan. 28- Gimme Some Money

Blah. I have no money for new comics. I have yet to read Mike Carey's X-Men and that makes me sad in the crotch region. If I could only sell some artwork or marry a rich old woman near death, I'd be happy. Even if that means doing it with an old lady.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Feb. 19- Uncanny X-Men

I finally got money for new comics. That included Brubaker's Uncanny. If you don't like this comic, you're a sinner or a stupid piece of crap.
