My baby and dream project is the comic review website Comic Widows (now also on MySpace). Comic Widows presents articles, opinions and reviews of comics in all forms of the media: mainstream and independent print, film, television, manga and anime, gaming and on the web. Especially check out my regular opinion column Sweating the Small Stuff. Please also visit the Comic Widows discussion board at Comics Uncovered.

I also write a monthly review of the Marvel comics, The New Avengers and The Mighty Avengers, for the Avengers Forever website, and am an active participant in the Forum there.

At Avengers Forever I currently have reviews up of: Mighty Avengers #6, Ultimates 3 #1, Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes II #8, New Avengers: Illuminati #5 and New Avengers #37.

Who am I?

I'm a supposedly professional writer and a reviewer of popular culture in all its forms. I've done stints in radio, journalism, theatre, film and video retail. Ask me anything about movies, television, music or especially comics and youll be hard pressed to shut me up.

I'm married to a beautiful attorney named Jennifer and have a broken one-eyed big baby-cat kitty named Spooky and gray fluffy little menace named Starlight.

I'm currently forever working on several endless online and offline writing projects, including a cyberpunk thriller that makes Pulp Fiction look like a Care Bear picnic entitled The Beast Without, as well as others too numerous to mention - like the far future epic where sea mammals plot to wipe out what's left of the human race... or the one about the aging ex-rock star who has paranormal vision and knows the Weekly World News is all true... or maybe something completely different.

I'm also the owner/moderator of the Writer Circle Yahoo Group - just voted one of Writer's Digest's 2006 "101 Best Websites for Writers."

Our three major objectives are critique, feedback and support. I'm also the owner and moderator of Poet Circle, Writer Circle's sister group specifically for poets and their work. I'm a member of three in-person writers groups, nearly a dozen online writers groups and I post regularly in many interest groups at Yahoo! and occasionally at the seemingly dead Tribe.net.

I am also the Founder and occasional Chat Moderator at The Writers Chatroom, formerly Milli Thornton's Fear of Writing Chatroom, that features writing guests of all kinds and authors from many genres and more.

A Virgo in my late thirties (or thereabouts), I confess a love for 1980s heavy metal hair bands, trash television, Kate Bush, talk radio, the History Channel, alternative music, chocolate, Hong Kong flicks and Godzilla movies. When I'm not reading comic books or eating French fries, I like to make fun of things I dont understand, as well as things I do understand. Currently I can't seem to get "Shut Up and Drive" by Rihanna out of my head and I'm actively stalking that hot red-haired lawyer chick from that disability law firm - the bride.

Penned by myself and my friend Andrea, The Downward Spiral is an ongoing (and currently stalled - but wait until it picks up again!), collaborative, imaginary web blog of a semi-alcoholic twenty-something slacker whose life is in crisis. Also check out Andrea's new Potterdelphia (also on MySpace) if you're into the whole Harry Potter phenomenon thang.

Read my intermittant and curmudgeonly movie reviews at Welcome to Hell and please also check out my Ryze and Bookcrossing pages. I also sometimes do comic book reviews and interviews at Silver Bullet Comics and Pretty/Scary.

I'm also a greedy materialist like most human beings. If you want to buy my love, Amazon.com has provided the means with this completely unreasonable list. It's only for silly people who like throwing vast amounts of money at worthless causes like selfish writers obsessed with collecting more and more 'stuff.'

And then there's that Live Journal thing, and you can also find me at MySpace. You can contact me here.

Is that enough?

And folks wonder why I have no time and I'm constantly and endlessly stressed out. ;-)

At least I'm still alive.

For the moment.

Maybe.

RE: Mighty Avengers #5 Reviewed

Nice review. I defintely agree about the new New Avengers, having the awesome cover that was completey detached from the story being odd (thought I too enjoyed the story tremendously...reminds me alot of BMB's old Daredevil work which I miss horribly). I'm going to miss Cho on Mighty as well. Actually I wasn't aware that the book was that far behind schedule (I think you mentioned that you saw the cover image for issue 5 nearly a year ago...wow).

I'm sad to see that Cho and Lu will be leaving the titles as artists. It'd be nice if Marvel could keep their artists for longer stints on one title. I'm expecting Bagley to do a good job on Mighty though.

Hi there! We’re starting up this year’s Small Press Idol…and wanted to invite you to the grand unveiling of this year’s Guidelines. I apologize for the all-in-one nature of this. At this time, individuals and teams have a little over a month to get things together and be ready to post their Round 1 entries. Round 1 will last till March 25th. It’s a solid window to get a project together and qualified for Round 2 past our judge panel. If you are interested in being a contestant, this is fair warning to get a project going!
If you are a news outlet or resource of any sort, we invite you to help spread the word about Small Press Idol, and get on the official Sponsors and Supporters list on the Idol Main Page. Traditionally, the page has gotten hundreds of thousands of hits a month for the 5 months the contest runs. All we ask in return for the link placement on our prominently placed list, is a link back in some way that is fairly prominent, and that you indeed cover the contest if you are a news site. You can contact us about that right from the guidelines page.
Just want to watch the show? That’s great! Now is time to sign up at the site so you can VOTE in the rounds to come, and post comments about your favorites! We’re expecting hundreds of contestants this year. It should be a lot of fun!

Hope this message reaches you in the spirit it was intended, you are welcome to ask questions, and otherwise make sure this is for real. This is the fourth year for the SPI. Last year’s contest pages are still online. So that’s what this is about, hope it interests you!
