We are a collective of cartoonists, zinesters, writers, artists, educators and readers dedicated to increasing awareness, fostering appreciation, and encouraging creation of comics, zines, minicomics, graphic novels, animation, self-publishing and related arts in the Houston area and beyond. We founded the Houston Comix and Zine Festival and continue to be involved every year and we also organize a Comic and Zine Exhibition at the Westheimer Block Party. The Houston Comix and Zine Festival is an exhibition and celebration of comics, minicomics, zines, self-publishing, diy etc. and a grassroots effort to promote and encourage the creation of independent art and media. The next one is January 26, 2008 (Time and location to be announced). The Comic and Zine Exhibition takes place as part of the infamous Westheimer Block Party, Houston's most popular outdoor festival celebrating art, music and subversion. The next one is Saturday, October 13 from noon to dark. Free table space (bring your own table) is available to cartoonists, zinesters and other underground media types. contact information: emailYahoo! Hi there,
I thought that your group may be interested in becoming an affiliate of the International Cartoonist Conspiracy. We're a loose international organization of cartoonists. We include both professional cartoonists and amateur doodlers among our membership... membership is open to all cartoonists regardless of gender, race, age, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, attractiveness, wit, or talent. Only the desire to produce comics is necessary.
We've been conspiring since December 2002, and currently have active cartoonist cells in Minneapolis MN, San Francisco CA, Calgary/Edmonton, Chicago IL, Lancaster PA, Milwaukee WI, Montreal, Rice MN, Sacramento CA, Sioux Falls SD and Springfield IL. The most active cells meet once or twice a month to draw jam comics or participate in other activities, put out publications, and arrange gallery shows and other events.
What are the benefits in becoming a cell of the conspiracy?
1) Promotion. We'll give you a section of our message board, which can include a permanent link to whatever website you have for your group at the top of it. This is a good place to organize events and activities for your cell. We can also give a member of your group the ability to publish whatever your group wants on our group blog, which is the homepage of the site.
2) An international group of collaborators. Anyone can start an account on our message board to discuss and organize whatever they wish.

Let me know if you have any questions. If this appeals to your group and I'll set up your section of the message board and a blog account for whoever you wish to have one. Regardless, best of luck to you and your group.
Best wishes,
Steven Stwalley Webmaster, The International Cartoonist Conspiracy |
