My blog is at BlogSpot.

I'm the "Swiss army knife" of illustrators--versatile as all heck. As proof, check out my Grab Bag gallery.

I've produced packaging illustrations for All the Kings Men Toy Soldiers (the original artwork is in the Grab Bag gallery). You can check out Ken Cliffe's amazing miniature soldiers by clicking on the following patriotic image:

I've also produced artwork for Gallopade International. Check them out!

African American Heroes: Follow in their Footsteps!

All Aboard! The Underground Railroad

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage!

Eureka! Inventions & Inventors Change the World!

Famous Explorers: Discovering America!

The Golden Age of Piracy

Landforms: Earth's Amazing Face!

America's 16th President, Abraham Lincoln!

The Blue and the Gray: The Civil War

And my artwork is featured on nearly all of Gallopade's Biography Funbooks!

I can also write the devil out of anything, with over 20 years' experience as a copy editor and writer in multiple industries. Check out a bibliography of my role playing game experience at Pen & Paper.

I accept commissions and welcome opportunities to talk about comics. Feel free to drop me a line.

Some comic-specific autobiographical tidbits...

I started life as an artist, and from an early age loved the combination of images and words. I became a comic reader when I got my first Disney and Little Lulu digests. I made the leap from "funnybooks" when I was 12 with Marvel's adaptation of Star Wars drawn by Howard Chaykin--becoming a fan of the medium in general and of Chaykin in particular.

Though I gave up comics in high school, I rediscovered them during my junior year of college--books like Chaykin's American Flagg, Walt Simonson's Thor, Frank Miller's Daredevil, Dean Motter's Mr. X, and Alan Moore's Swamp Thing. I was just in time. Within a few months, Chaykin's revamp of The Shadow hit the shelves beside Moore & Gibson's Watchmen, Miller's Dark Knight and Moore & Bolland's Killing Joke. It was mind-blowing, precedent-shattering stuff that redefined the industry. I haven't looked back since.

On and off, I've been reading comics now for over 30 years. I've seen trends and fads come and go. I've seen editorial choices made then reversed. And through it all, I've discovered that there's no end to the talent and artistry of the people involved in making comics--from the indies to the mainstream. There's room for everybody.

Currently, I am reading the following books: 100 Bullets, Countdown, All-Star Superman, Boneyard, Castle Waiting, Checkmate, Daredevil, Fantastic Four, Hawaiian Dick, Hellblazer, Jonah Hex, Lone Ranger, Loveless, Planetary, Powers, Ultimate Fantastic Four, and Winter Men and anything that stars Blackhawk, the Doom Patrol, or Adam Strange. If your favorite title or the book you're publishing isn't on this list, convince me.

I'm a fan of the following creators: Daniel Acuna, Mike Allred, Sergio Aragones, Brian Azzarello, Brian Bolland, Philip Bond, Norm Braithewaite, Ed Brubaker, John Byrne, John Cassady, Howard Chaykin, Olivier Coipel, Darwyn Cooke, Alan Davis, Luis Domingo, Tommy Lee Edwards, Warren Ellis, Mark Farmer, Pasqual Ferry, Marcello Frusin, Neil Gaiman, Mike Grell, Jackson "Butch" Guice, Bryan Hitch, Adam Hughes, Stuart Immonen, Michael Lark, J.P. Leon, Leonardo Manco, Linda Medley, Mike Mignola, Alan Moore, Richard Moore, Grant Morrison, Dean Motter, Paul Neary, Mike Avon Oeming, Dave Perillo, Bruno Premiani, Frank Quitely, Eduardo Risso, Alex Ross, Dave Ross, Greg Rucka, Jesus Saiz, Walt Simonson, Cameron Stewart, Neil Vokes, and Mike Weiringo.

Dredford "Dreddie" Hockgem

Inspired by Gris Grimly, I created a "signature character" for a set of "gothic" artist trading cards. Later, I layered on some Charles Addams and Edward Gorey with varied success. Still experimenting with the little guy.

The Adaptor

This art traces an almost 20-year love/hate relationship with my "Villains & Vigilantes" character, The Adaptor. More importantly, you can see how much I've grown artistically. Neato!
