| Header: | You MUST read ROCKETO! | ||
| Bulletin: | I'm having one of those D'OH! years or something. How is it that I've never heard of ROCKETO: Journey to the Hidden Sea?! I mean, I go to my comic book store all the time. I've never seen a single issue on the stands. Never heard a fellow comic book fan mention it. Dave (the comic shop owner) never recommended it. It's as though it never existed. Then suddenly--WOW! There it is, as a pair of trade paperback collections from Image. All I can say is thank the gods for Amazon.com. I usually try to savor new books, but once I started reading the adventures of mapper Rocketo Garrison, I COULD NOT PUT THE BOOKS DOWN. I do not say this lightly: ROCKETO is for comics today what Watchmen was for comics in the '80s. It resets the bar, rekindles my passion for graphic storytelling, and enlivens the whole medium. It's genius. The story is thoroughly engaging, the characters are alive and breathe, and the art is a feast. But best of all, the new world and peoples that Frank Espinosa creates take root and live in your imagination well after the last page is turned. So I can't understand how a work of such vitality, such importance, and such brilliant achievement completely escaped my notice. Either I'm slipping, or something is seriously wrong with the industry. ...Or it's some unhealthy combination of the two. Whatever the reason, I'm taking action to make sure that YOU, gentle reader, at least have the option to check it out. I hope you already know about ROCKETO, but in case you don't and you truly love comics, please do yourself a favor. You will be amazed. ROCKETO is proof that the medium I love is still alive and kicking. Thank you, Mr. Espinosa. |
