Merry Christmas wishes!

I've had the darnedest time wrapping my heart around this holiday season. So many familiar sights and activities weren't possible, and new "traditions" haven't yet filled the void. My family has run behind schedule on all of our preparations because of work schedules, illnesses, some mild apathy and other unavoidable distractions. I have been working on a Christmas card between errands and when inspiration strikes and time permits, but it won't be ready for mailing until ... well ... "sometime" after Christmas.

But today--Christmas eve!--I'm in a better place about it all. I've decided to look at it as if we're prolonging the season. Christmas has a tendency to roll in, jumble everything up and vanish all-too-quickly, like a rowdy wedding crasher. Often, there's not enough climax and too much denouement.

But not this year, bub! Oh, no! Just when you think it's over, my Christmas card will show up, and it will do more than make you grateful that you're not related to me; it will make you doubly appreciate the gene pool from which you sprang. Those of you on the candy list will get The Wife's confectionary delights just as you're experiencing withdrawal symptoms because you've run out of eggnog and cookies. And, finally, those on our gift list will get their parcels o' treasure when they most miss having something mysterious to unwrap.

So, yes, our timing is bollocks this year. But maybe, just MAYBE, our aim was guided by an invisible hand to have a happier effect. ... At least that's what I'm telling myself. Hindsight will have the final say.

In the meantime, please accept my and my family's heartfelt wishes for a blessed Christmas and healthy and prosperous new year. And I will be in touch soon. I promise.
