Thanks for the add.
As for surviving in the real world with my prestigious Kubert diploma - it goes pretty well. I didn't break into comics, mainly because I wasn't interested in staying in/near the city at the time and I was preoccupied with getting married. Since it is only now that this industry seems to consider its workers proper employees (with access to benefits and contractual assurances) - I think this was the right thing for me.
I found a decent job as a staff artist at a craft company with the portfolio borne of that school - and I got good experience and an introduction to the business of art. I found it hardest to become career oriented since it was my first time out from under my parent's roof.. and I was surrounded by people with like interests for the first time (not to mention access to many other worthy distractions).
Its been ten years for me - but now I'm working independently and doing work that I really enjoy, for a fair wage. So - for me - the verdict is: survival accomplished. I will likely take college courses when time and funds allow, however, and I do feel like I missed out on some important culture by micro-specializing like I did.
Its a good place for people who are self motivated and focused - that is not a description that fit most of my class at the JKS. Perhaps this has changed - especially since a career in comics is less laughable now than it was then (in the days of the Image bust, and books of nothing but double page spreads for fans of uber-hack Liefield too drool over).
What's it like there now? I understand there are some renovations going on. How will the students wake up without all that asbestos dust to get the blood flowing?

If you put an undisclosed number of chimps in a darkened room for long enough they will come up with War and Peace, and if you put one monkey in a room with with a 2b pencil and a couple of sheets of good drawing paper then it will come up with something as good as yours!
