How are you doin' sir? Still living in the Rose City? Workin' for WVS? I've totally lost track of all the Rust City folks but I still come across your stuff now and again online. Do you ever see anyone else? (Steve, Amy, Spider, John, Dean) 2 Replies [ Latest posted on January 30th, 2007 11:52 AM ]

Hi, Steve -- (or, Steev, which I also like.)
Yeah, things have gone on as usual here since then. And of course I still see all those guys. I was over at Steve's a week ago for a showing of 'I Spit On Your Grave', which thoroughly grossed out everyone. Dean is production manager now for Andy and Amy's Happy Trails. Spider is riding on his recent film, co-authored with one of his pals, about a guy trying to use food stamps to tip a stripper. John is married to Michelle now and is trying to make a go of his scratchboard art. Amy I see less often, but she's involved with the local indie artist scene, so I talk with her when I spot her at First Thursdays and similar events.
I'm at WVS, now Laika Studios, pretty much doing the same character design / occasional directing thing I've been doing for a long time now. I'm branching out into illustrating here and there. Selling quite a few tarot decks.
And how about you? I see you around the Blueline forums, and now this ComicSpace area, and SITO, and I see your work crop up here and there, so I know you're working hard. I keep thinking someone will get smart and offer you a job pencilling a title somewhere! How's the family?

Sounds like everyone is doing well. Is Steve still working with you? Spider has a film?!! How cool is that? It sounds fun too. I can definitely see John being married. He is one of the nicest people I’ve known. Is Amy related to Amy Sacks Eyewear? I could see that. (pun)
I had read somewhere that Vinton had been bought or something but didn’t know what it was anymore. Are you still the M&M’s guy? You’ll have to tell me which commercials to watch for. Any feature stuff? It seems like they had a movie in production at some point. I come across your artwork all the time. One of my kids had a paperback sized comic that you did a western in. I think Rick Geary was in it too.
I hop around on the web a lot. I haven’t gone to the Blueline Board much since it got hacked. I should more, if for nothing else, to support Bill (nice guy). I spend most of my time on the Ten Ton Studios board. It’s a hoot and there are loads of talented people there with a refreshing lack of giant egos. I play with my blog (sounds dirty). I haven’t done much artwise in the last couple years. It has a lot to do with location and time. We’re planning a trip to San Diego this year so maybe I can pick up some work. I’m doing a short promo piece with a guy named Lelan Estes that we’re going to try to sell.
Family is doing OK. The wife and I will be married 19 years this summer. She’s a successful mosaic artist now. Three kids – 16, 13 and 5 - all girls. We bought 5.5 acres of land a couple years ago and built a big house on it. Built a lot of it myself. My job is not art related at all but it pays the bills.
I’ve been trying to find out Richard Finn is still putting on the Portland Comic Show. Do you know? Did you get the Christmas card? I sent it to an address I got from an APA.
Talk to you later – Steve |
