Header: ICON THIS WEEK MAY 17 ADVANCE TICKETS GET IN EARLY
Bulletin: Hey Fans......the week of the ICON is here!! I hope you are all ready for what will be our biggest con ever with new events and more guests and attractions.

I hope you have been visiting our site at it's new name:
www.iowacomicbookclub.com because we have been trying to update guests and other info with it right around the corner.

This year you may have already heard us on the Lazer 103.3 or seen an ad during IPTV kids programs. We will be in an article in the Cityview this week and also on FM 105.1 out of Ames we will have a club member doing an interview. We have event received a letter of recognition from Gov Culver for our work to promote reading this year with our Word Power Kid Zone......READING IS A SUPER POWER!

The ICBC is out there trying to get noticed........let us know what works so we can keep reaching more people. Please keep telling your friends about the ICON. We are growing every year and this could be the one that decides if we can go to the next level......2 DAY ICON 09?!?!

BIG NEWS SINCE LAST UPDATE:

ADVANCE TICKET BUYERS GET IN EARLY!!! Those who either bought tickets at our local comic book shops or by mail will be able to get in around 8:30 am the day of the ICON. There will be 2 lines after 9 am. Those who have tickets already can get through quicker in the advance ticket line.

There will be a gaming area at ICON 08'......The Mid Iowa Association of Wargamers (MIAW) have decided to put together an area with at least 2 gaming scenarios. There will be a ZOMBIE Scenario and a STAR WARS Miniature Gaming Scenario for sure at the ICON.

OUR GUEST LIST FOR THE ARTIST AREA HAS BROKEN OUR PAST RECORDS........61 GUESTS!

Tom Nguyen and Gordon Purcell have signed on as guests this year after a 3 year absence. Tom is the great inker to Doug Mahnke and a fine artist on his own. Gordon is a great addition too because he has done tons of Star Trek art for comics as well as work on Justice League Unlimited and the movie adaptation of Snakes on a Plane.......now we have the Star Wars and Star Trek fans covered!

Speaking of Star Wars we have an Lucas approved Star Wars caricature artist named Darryl Woods coming from KC.

We will have some book releases too at the ICON. Frostbite the Snowman creator Steve Daniels will be releasing Dark Hopper 1 Shot at our event. He had the opportunity to showcase it sooner but liked us so much that he delayed release.

Kiss Me Comix who was a first time guest last year is back to celebrate 8 years publishing and and will be offering new releases of their books with Zero Issues of their titles.......with alternate covers and autographs. We are also honored to be the first stop on their release tour of their books.

Iowa's own Antidote Comics is hard at work to hopefully finish a new title for release as well. If nothing else they will be having a preview of the new book......crossing fingers they can get us the real deal.

IPTV kid show super hero Word Girl will be appearing in the afternoon in the Word Power Kid Zone!

Our silent auction for charity this year has some new contibuters.....one of them being Stan "The Man" Lee!

PREVIOUS YET STILL GREAT NEWS:

Our headliners of Mike Baron, Greg Larocque, John Ostrander, and Matthew Clark. We also have Mike Norton coming back and bringing 2 new guests along Tim Seeley and Chris Burnham. Of course returning fan favorites like Phil Hester, Andy Brase, Tyler Walpole, Ron Wagner, Adam Van Wyk, Tom Brazelton, Steve Daniels, Kevin Mellon, Dennis Hopeless, and Doug Paszkiewicz are just a few.

John Ostrander will be doing a talk/discussion on writing 101 for comic books.

We will be having a full size replica of the 1960's Batman TV show BATMOBILE!! The first 100 kids (9 and under) with paid adult through the door will receive a FREE Hot Wheels Batmobile car!

This year the ICBC wanted to become even more of a family friendly event and we have gotten the help of IPTV. Dan Wardell......host of IPTV Kids Club every morning. We will also be adding a WORD POWER KID ZONE with coloring and crafts for your kids to enjoy if they get tired of waiting for your to finish shopping........NOTE we are not a babysitting service.....LOL.......we just want the kids to have fun too if they get bored and can't afford the pricey comics.

We have the 501st Central Garrison of the Empire back and they are bringing a background setup to have photos taken in front of.

Spiderman.......pre One More Day thank you very much........and Batman as well will be back too.

The fans of wrestling will be happy to know that Des Moines's own 3XW will be in the house. They do not plan to wrestle this year but will be happy to greet the fans. They have an event the night before in Des Moines so make it a full weekend and do both.

ICON '08 will be Saturday May 17th from 9-5.....yes 8 hours not 7.....at the 4-H Building........same as last year. The price is still just $8 and kids 9 and under get in free with a paying adult.

REMEMBER your Iowa Comic Book Club will be keeping busy after the ICON too. Will are planning our 2nd annual MinICON in October but before that in Waterloo, IA we are hosting COMIC BOOK JUNGLE in conjunction with the national Tarzan convention called DUM DUM Con the weekend of July 26.

Keep your eyes to the emails and site and we will look forward to seeing you May 17.

Remember......WE ALL HAVE ISSUES!!

Scott.....Pres of the ICBC
