| Bulletin: | 1st annual Independent Comic Book Idol We are now taking official submissions for this year's Estrada Media’s Independent Comic Book Idol. You will need to be a registered site member to participate and vote in the competition. It is quick, and free, to register on our site. There is no entry fee at all for this contest, it is completely free and the winner will get their comic printed for free by EMP printing services and it would be published through 209 Ave studios. You will have your series at least published for four issues with 209 Ave studios and Printing by EMP printing services. Go to this site www.estradamedia.net and go to the forum and register! Also you can email me at estradajake@yahoo.com for any additional questions. Creator Rights The issue of creator rights is very important to us, so we want to make it clear as to what rights to images and characters are involved in this competition and how we deal with creator rights. 1. For each image submitted, you are giving Estrada Media Publishing and 209 Ave Studios the North American First Printing Rights for that image. All reprint rights and further use of the image is solely returned to the originator of the image. This means, for each round, where we say the image will appear is the only place the image will appear in print/web from Estrada Media or 209 Ave Studios without your express permission. 2. All rights to characters and concepts will remain solely the creators in question. Please make sure that there is a copyright notice: "Characters and concepts (c) 2008 Creator Name(s)" on each image submitted. Each publication EMP prints that has artwork from anyone, contains a copyright notice that reads "Entire Contents (c) 209 ave studios and EMP and all artists whose work appears herein as noted. All Rights reserved, reverting back to individual writers and artists where noted upon publication. 3. 209 Ave Studios and Estrada Media Publishing of working together and have been here to help many people. We are in operation to help you and have extensive knowledge in creating and developing comics. So we are here and willing to aid you in accomplishing your goal of being a comic book creator. The following are guidelines and the prizes that are offered for the participating contestants. If you make it past round 1 you will be expected to turn in a full 8 pages of story and artwork plus any other drawings and writings that maybe required. So you must be prepared for this very hard and labor intense contest that will test your skill and patience. The final 8 page strip will be due August 1st. Failure to meet that deadline may result prizes and printing going to someone else. We will make arrangements if need be with proper communication amend said deadline but you must have a good enough reason why you can’t finish, so it is best and plan to be done by the 1st of August. The deadline for this contest is March 1st, 8 pages should be easy enough to be completed at the given deadline even with the required rounds. ________________________________________ 1.) In this contest everyone has a shot: We will be accepting individuals and writer/artist teams. A strong concept and story is going to be important to go all the way. If you are not currently collaborating with someone, then search for a team that you can trust and help you make it to the finish line Submissions will be accepted through the deadline each round, if you miss a deadline, your project will be dropped from the contest. Each round will build on the last one, and be voted on by the Judges first whom will be Nino Meserina, Jake Estrada and Billy Champion. Eligibility: This is for any creator that has never had their book published or isn’t making any money from his prior creations. This is a chance to get out in the limelight. So go head make your dreams come true. CONTENT: All materials produced for the contest must at least be PG-13 material. I more than anyone understand that some material isn’t intended for that bracket but if you can at least tone down your version like they do for primetime programming then we will not have a problem, this means no obscene cussing should be visable. If your character is swearing it should be blurted out in &^%$$. This contest will have people from all different age brackets so please be mindful. However once you win, then the creator will have complete creative control on their own material after the contest and we have nothing against mature content. PROMOTING: Yes promote your idea, build word of mouth because in the end your public at large on the net will be the ones that will vote on your materials and the more viewers voting for you the better I ask however to please not show off any unseen materials prior to it being seen on our site during the contest, once it has been posted on our site and the judges have their way with it, then you will be free to show it to others. 2.) The Prize. This year, the Grand Prize will be a 4-issue commitment from the 209 Ave Studios and Estrada Media Publishing to sponsor the launching of a series based on the winning concept, with an option to continue with it if successful. The Winner will not have to pay to get their books printed for the 4 issues and they will benefit from the proceeds of their material. ________________________________________ 3.) ROUND ONE: The Basic Premise/Talent. All submissions for this round will be accepted from February 4th - March 1st, and we will be posting ALL submissions on a page in the Estrada Media website, which we will link to from the forum. Submissions will be judged by the Judges for their potential. All comments will be posted for all to read on the web page, and public comment will be accepted after posting. Image requirements: One digital cover image, with a canvass size of 6.875 inches wide by 10.5 inches tall set up to use bleed set-up for the image. If you do not know how to set up a standard comic book cover, ask for help we will aid you or someone else you know can help you. The image is intended to be rough of the cover and of the characters or team origin of the first issue of your comic. This will be rough so no completed images. This means no inks or colors. Just pencils and written proposal of your comic. We want to see your soul and your passion Here we will give you advice, speak with you and give you pointers to make you a much more stronger creator. Images need to be sent in to estradajake@yahoo.com Please use www.yousendit.com to send large files to that e-mail address. This Round will be for a Pencil image Only. ________________________________________ 4.) ROUND TWO: Characters, Please. Deadline: April 20th. Vote continues until April 20th. All entrants that are judged to be worthy of passing on to this round will be required to present character sketches and bio info for each of their main characters. Please note that Round 2 artistic requirements. We will not define how many characters you need to present, but rather a more rounded artistic view of that which you do present: A. MANDATORY: Main characters in full bodied postions will be needed. Things such as FRONT VIEW, ¾ VIEW, SIDE PROFILE AND CHARACTER(S) IN A ACTION POSE. No partial drawings of your character where ankles are cut off and uncompleted hands. This isn’t Rob Liefield comics. Also, this will show viewers what you can do and what are the physical limitations of your characters and artistic styles. We also will want to have a rough of your character Logo in this round as well. Each Image must be separate file. Each Image must maintain a max width of 600 pixels or it will be resided down so it can be viewed easily on the website. The height max will be 800 pixels as well. Also I ask that you name your files accordingly to that of your character creation. Voting will be the said in round two: Judges will view what they like and they will say their pieces, before they comment to the 3rd round. As soon as each judge has left their comment at least once, it will move to voting. This will then complete the round to have the top 20 projects. Here is how it will go as well for the final outcome. There will be one official winner, then there will be an additional 4 runner ups that will have their other stories collected and printed in one anthology book which will be published by 209 Ave Studios and Estrada Media Publishing and any of the proceeds will go directly to the creators evenly. All runner ups will get 20 copies of the anthology series as well. ________________________________________ 5.) ROUND THREE: Sequential Primers. Deadline: May 20th. Vote continues until June 1st. This round puts the competition to it’s next level, as the teams will be required to turn in 3 finished and lettered B+W pages from their Origin or #1st issue story, in standard comic format it must be the first 3 pages of your story in sequence. These 3 pages should be engaging and get people engrossed in buying the comic and have a desire to read it. The top 6 contestant/ teams will be invited to the final Round. ________________________________________ 6.) ROUND FOUR: This is the final stretch of the competition and where you will bring your big guns out blaring. You will have the completed 8 pages by the deadline, it will be inked, colored have the logo, it will be compiled with all the other preliminary sketches and writings. This will look like a real legit comic, this is where the kids gloves come right off. Then once the dust settles, the votes are counted, the winner will be announced, Nino will do a little dance, and we will publish the winners series for 4 issues, and the runner ups will have their books published in the anthology. Anyway folks I hope this is enough info and we generate enough responses amongst the indy creators. Our goal is to bring these people to the forefront. You see small press is big press.
