Green Lama: Man of Strength Part Two--On Sale NOW!

From the AC Comics store, online:

"The conclusion to creator James Ritchey's acclaimed 2008 miniseries- "Man of Strength, Part II". The timeless warrior known as the Green Lama thwarts the plan of the villainous Stopwatch to secure the future of the alternate version of the AC Universe in which he exists. Guest-stars include a revived version of the original Spark Comics superhero known as Atoman ,and other never-previously-revived GA heroes including Golden Lad, Swift Arrow, and Ace Comics' Magno; as well as alternate-world versions of Ms. Victory, Paragon, Synn, Commando D, Nightveil, Speedbolt, Viddexx, Colt, Scarlet Scorpion, Beamer, Black Terror, Reddevil and The Fighting Yank. 30 pages written and penciled by James Ritchey, with inks by Jeff Austin and Mark Stegbauer. Plus, a vintage reprint from the original Green Lama's Golden Age run; an untitled story from Prize Comics #32, as illustrated by Jack Binder. See what made this character an enduring favorite for almost seven decades. Then, as a special bonus, from the standard AC Universe , an untold tale from the 1940's career of The Blue Bulleteer- "Trophy Wife Scorned"!! A film noir tour-de-force wherin the 'Bulleteer must match wits with a newly-widowed gun moll and a pair of tommy gun totin' gansters amidst a morgue on fire. Written by Maura Grundmeyer and Mark Dail, penciled bt Scott Larson and inked by Jeff Austin. A full 48 pages of great comics entertainment. Standard comic-book size, black & white interiors with color covers, printed in 2009.".

Synopsis: "REVELATIONS". Dumont remembers his previous incarnations as THE GREEN LAMA, in hidden Shambhala, in the Himalayas. Regaining his powers, he returns to civilization to defeat his ancient enemy, STOPWACH, and a brainwashed ATOMAN--all to restore the soul of his beloved Madeleine to her body- and to literally save humanity!!

Special Notes: This is the second half of the intro to AC's great new GREEN LAMA ongoing series. which debuted in 2008 as the AC's most successful books of the year!! In this issue, (which picks up where GREEN LAMA #1 left off) the truth comes out regarding the unsuspecting college student who has fallen heir to the ageless powers of The GREEN LAMA. This continuation of an "Elseworlds"-style take on the classic Golden Age hero created by Ken Crossen and refined in consultation with Kendra Crossen Burroughs, daughter of and executor to the literary estate of the characters' creator should continue to appeal to contemporary readers with it's undercurrent of dark intrigue set against the modern world. This volume of the saga features the reappearance of another classic hero contemporary with the original SPARK PUBLICATIONS run from the 1940's, ATOMAN, as the dupe of the LAMA'S arch-villain. Thus, the stage is set for a number of other upcoming revivals/reinterpretations of popular Golden Age heroes that will occur in future issues of the series, including MISS MASQUE, BLACK TERROR, The BLUE LADY and others, all slightly different even than previous AC revivals, done up here in the distinctive style of writer/artist James Ritchey.

Sample from issue, Written and Penciled (and one page inked) by me, inked by Mark Stegbauer

April 13th:

After a Diamond-related one month delay, Green Lama Man of Strength #1 is IN THE SHOPS!!! They don't like the Bush-Leaguers to have two similar titles released the same month...Bill Black and Mark Heike's issue 0 did well enough for Diamond to have to reorder, and hopefully this will bode well for #1.

February 6th:

GREAT LAMA NEWS!!!

Da Numbas came in from Diamond--and Bill says we hit a high enough mark to warrant a second issue! The 'AC/Spark Explosion', my nefarious plan to subvert the mainstream by pursuing the crazy idea of using super-hero comics as a means of self-expression (that I hinted at in my editorial page/blog) may still have half a chance! Plus, we received an excellent review/nod from People Magazine Australia! Now if I could only get even one American Comics News outlet interested in what I'm doing, we might actually do okay! :D

"Title: Green Lama, Man of Strength

Retail Price: $6.95 (maximum discount 50%)
Country of Origin: USA
UPC Code:Yes- Information pertaining to same will be forwarded later.
Ship Date: March 5, 2008
Synopsis: An unsuspecting college student falls heir to the powers of The GREEN LAMA, in a darkly contemporary version of the AC Universe. World War III has come and gone, demons run free in the streets- and only The GREEN LAMA can restore order. Guest-starring The FEMFORCE and GOLDEN LAD.
Special Notes: Almost seven years in the making, this "Elseworlds"- style take on the classic Golden Age hero created by Ken Crossen is the product of hot new writer/artist James Ritchey. Refined in consultation with Kendra Crossen Burroughs, daughter of (and executor to the literary estate of ) Ken Crossen, this intro to the smart new series gives a darker, edgier, more modern take on superheroics, and should appeal much more easily to current comics readers. Unlike AC's normal "classic" approach to heroes & storytelling, these characters are more ambiguous, with unknown agendas hidden around every corner. In addition to guest-appearances by Mr. Ritchey's versions of mainstream AC heroes, see the revival of other costumed characters from Crossen's Spark Publications group of the mid-1940's; each with it's own unique spin.
Company Name: AC Comics
Address: P. O. Box 521216, Longwood, Florida, 32752-1216
Phone: (407)767-0199".

Those guys sure can write some copy--I'm jealous! Other than the fact it's been only four years in the making, they tagged it.

I'm looking forward to Bill Black and Mark Heike's prequel--Issue Zero, as well.

Art and writing copyright 2005, 2007 Jim Ritchey.

Thanks, guys, for the kind comments.

Yeah, Paul, hope is never dead with me. Remember, this is still the 'unfixed', raw version, and needs three pages added, and three redone (EVIL BAD PACING). I could get issue two done in two and a half months, if I had the right team--the Multiple Sclerosis is regulated, and I'm a productive boy, once more.

Green Lama is great!

Damn, Jim! The Green Lama! Very nice! Thanks for posting it for all to see. That was a lot of work. You should be proud of the accomplishment even if it never sees print. I wish there was a completed part 2 to read, as well.

[ Posted by MikeWilliams on Feb 28th, 2007 7:57 PM ]...

Thanks for accepting, man. Your work is really fantactic.

[ Posted by James_Ritchey_III on Feb 8th, 2007 1:34 PM ]...

Hey, Paul! Good to hear from you! Thanks for the Add.

Hee...I've been thinking about just posting the PDF of issue one of Green Lama online as a piece of fan fiction. Yep--it's been lettered for over a year, now. 'Fanboy Hardcore' Blambot font fit better than Bill thought, and it comes close to matching the old Spark Publications style. Both Bill and I were TERRIBLY unhappy with the inks, and it needs about 3 pages added and 3 altered not to suck, pacing-wise, for specific pages. That's what you get for cramming 44 pages worth of story into 32 pages. But, GAWD, if it don't have some some breathtaking moments, if I do say so myself. :D

Any chance it will ever see print? or, is an online .pdf going to be as close as I get to reading it? I'd love to see the breathtaking moments and promise to ignore the sucky ones with the knowledge that it's still a work in progress.

[ Posted by PalisadesPress on Feb 7th, 2007 7:29 AM ]...

Great art as always! I'm still looking forward to seeing your Green Lama story in print. Happy to see you here!
