So, recently I decided it's time to follow my heart and move to Toronto. Only they REALLY don't make it easy. C'mon, Canada, what did I ever do to you for you to try so hard to keep me out??? I just want to love you!
Anyway, it appears my options are thus: 1) Find some Canadian company willing to hire me and fill out the paperwork necessary to get me a work permit. 2) Apply as a skilled worker. Probably the most logical option, but it's been known for Immigration to take as long as 2 YEARS to actually issue a visa. I'm impatient. I really don't want to wait that long. 3) Marry a Canadian and have them sponsor me. No idea how long that process takes. But it seems a bit silly, considering my main reason for moving is to be with Mark so we can decide if we want to be married. So yeah, bureaucracy sucks. I'm doing my best to not go crazy here, but I may be fighting a losing battle. I'm hoping Plan B (Move to Buffalo or thereabouts while waiting for my visa - a free 3 hour drive sure beats a $500 5 hour flight) will help me maintain my sanity. Anyway, any suggestions / advice / encouragement / job offers are appreciated. |
